Introduction
My name is Deborah and I am a Nigerian lady who has a keen interest in caring for children. I would say it is more of a passion than a job working with children and offering them care.
I have worked with children right from my childhood, starting out as a volunteer in an orphanage home and then becoming a part-time caregiver whilst receiving my education.
My work and time as a volunteer and caregiver at the orphanage were beyond what I had expected to experience working in that space. I had acquired new skills and new opportunities that may have seemed queer to some people, like; taking care of special needs kids, which I found myself happy and excited to do because I got to hang out with awesome kids that were beyond their disability and where they were at.
I have worked with infants from ages 0-15 mostly and they have grown to be part of my family. I am 25 years old currently and these kids are very much a part of my life and my journey.
My passion stemmed from being an orphan myself and wanting that exceptional care and love that I did not receive at some point in my life till I was adopted at the age of 10. Amazing right? My adoptive mom taught me everything I know about being a child caregiver as she was a nurse practitioner at Kings College Hospital in the UK at the time. She also brought me up in so much love that I knew I had to find a way to give it back, and there was no better way than to care, nurture and love these kids around me.
I could go on and on about my life and what led me into this field alongside studying to be a psychologist as well. I would say the passion I have and the love that my parent gave to me when I did not have any. Loving a child and caring for a child is more than just the biological parents being there. Loving a child is seeing beyond the rough gaps and bricks that life has thrown at you and choosing to portray love and kindness towards innocent kids trying to find their way around life.
