I have worked as a carer/personal assistant for about 10 years and I absolutely love the job, although it can be very tiring and emotional at times. I have an experience with all sort of clients, children, teens, young adults, adults and mostly senior care. I worked for a care agency and every day I was in different care settings, I had a full time job in care homes, where I worked on nursing unit, palliative care, dementia unit, respite, residential unit so my experience is very complex. For last 4 years I worked with spinal injuries in the clients' homes so I am used to running their household as well as care for the patients.
I am comfortable giving diabetic shots, changing catheters, changing diapers, bathing,;positioning on bed, transfers to the wheelchair using hoists, dressing, bowel management and many other tasks. I am open to learn new things in care as I'm sure I've not done it all yet, but I would prefer light tasks as I have had my own back injury (slipped disc) in 2014 and I would rather not do any heavy lifting.
Working with seniors is wonderful, I have been volunteering in our local residential home for over 2 years as a companion to some seniors and I love it!
