Introduction
My name is Dena and I was born in North London.
I am a graduate of Nottingham Trent University where I studied Contemporary Arts. I am a qualified Teacher of English and Drama and obtained my training at Nottingham University and my (QTTLS) Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills with The Education and Training Foundation in 2014.
At the start of my teaching career I taught English and Maths at Big Wood School, Buisness & Enterprise College, Nottingham where I delivered aspects of the British Key Stage 3 Curriculum, including planning and collaborating on a Scheme of Work for Key Stage 3, “An Introduction to Shakespeare”.
I enjoy all types of teaching and have taught all ages in all types of environments. As a trained College Tutor and visiting University Lecturer I designed and delivered multi-media units, including audio-visual roles, production, directing and self-promotion to undergraduate and post graduate levels at Nottingham Trent University between 2005 - 2006.
Forging links with industry for visiting speakers and work experience; such as Intermedia Film and Video Ltd, Nottingham. As well as working as a Set Tutor for television, including the BBC and “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.”
Preparing students for employability, career progression and/or further education and training
I am always concerned for my students’ academic and emotional well-being and I like to help students on a one to one basis. I have remained in touch with several of my students who I continue to teach online today. I am extremely dedicated to assisting them to reach their full potential and I am especially good at helping them pass their exams or improve their English Language skills as they transition between year groups and schools.
I am just as devoted to younger students and I like to ensure that I am skills and supporting their progress as young learners.
While I am a patient and fair educator with my pupils I am also a firm. I insist that they keep to their study schedule while encouraging them to enjoy their extracurricular activities. As a former Care -Giver for my Father, I am very flexible and I consider myself a compassionate and empathetic person. Above all I value manners, morals and self- respect.
My professional background is in theatre arts, dance, music, film and photography. I am an avid reader and I love to learn about new cultures. While I do not speak another language with any fluency, I have lived and worked as a teacher in several countries. I have a basic knowledge of Italian having lived in Italy since 2017.
I am sporty. I was a Gymnast and a former Dancer. I love swimming, horse-riding and hiking. I also love visiting Museums, art and photography galleries and sharing these experi -
ences with my students as I did in 2013 when I worked as a Private English Tutor in Moscow and Monaco and visited the Oceanographic Museum in Monaco with one of my Russian charges.
I hope this gives a sense of who I am as a person and as a teacher.
