Following the recent death of our mother, my father now lives on his own. His home is a Grade II listed farmhouse in the Suffolk countryside, so it's not ideal for an elderly resident. But he has lived there for over 50 years and is reluctant to leave it.
He is physically quite fit, considering his age. However, he does suffer from arthritis so his mobility is impaired. We have also started to notice some cognitive decline, and Alzheimer's was recently confirmed.
For some years, we have had daily care visits (3 per day, most days) from a local, licensed care agency. We are happy to keep up 1 per day, if you prefer it, if you'd like a break. We also have Meals on Wheels bringing lunch every day. My brother typically comes up most weekends for a day or two.
We have now reached the point where it seems that a full-time live-in carer is more appropriate. Especially as there have been a couple of nighttime episodes.
We're looking for someone who can provide him with personal care. Including helping him to get up, wash, and get dressed. Ideally, take him outside for a short walk to keep him mobile. Prepare his meals and so on.
The house has a large bedroom with an en-suite bathroom available for your use. There is Wifi and a living room with a TV, and a large kitchen.
It is in the Suffolk countryside just over a mile from a small village, and 10 miles from the nearest market town. So this will suit someone who likes country living and is happy with peace and quiet and country walks.
The village has a small swimming pool, a library/cafe and a general shop. The town has a weekly market, swimming pool, and several large supermarkets.
It's less than 25 miles to beautiful Suffolk coastal spots including Southwold, Aldeburgh, Minsmere Bird Reserve, Dunwich Heath and Dunwich Beach.
We don't require you to drive, but because of the location, it might be easier to get out and about if you can. If you have a license, but no car, it might be possible to use our car.
My father can be a little cranky, especially before he gets to know you. But he's normally fairly accepting of your care and support.
You must have the right to live and work in the UK. But we are flexible about the start date, and duration of your stay. The longer the better, of course, ideally 6-12 months, or longer.
If it's hard to make a commitment from an ad, we have no problem if you visit for a few days just to meet my father and brother and check-out the house/location.
