We are a family of three — our son Alexander, mother Kate, and father Fred. Kate and Fred have been visiting and working in Guatemala since 2011, but this is Alexander’s first trip to the country. We are very excited to show him a little of a country that is so special to us.

We live in London and love playing outside in parks, exploring museums and gardens, and cooking together. Alexander is a typical 2.5 year-old with lots (and lots!) of energy. He is very talkative and confident and loves imaginary play, building things, baking/cooking, and any kind of messy play with sand, water, or paints. He really loves music—both listening to it and making it, and likes to get out and about exploring new places.

Alexander still takes one short nap after lunch most days (approx. 1.30-2.30), and goes to bed around 8-8.30. He is usually a very happy and well-behaved boy, though he can be quite stubborn and like most toddlers gets more easily frustrated or upset when he’s very tired.

As a family we believe in positive, gentle discipline. We set firm rules and boundaries where needed but focus on helping Alexander to understand and process his feelings and frustrations with the aim of helping him to grow into an empathetic and thoughtful person.

Kate is an anthropologist and university professor in London and will be working on a research project during our time in Guatemala City. Fred is a lawyer who will be working remotely from our home during our stay, so will be available to provide any support or advice needed, especially during the adjustment and getting-to-know each other period for Alexander and his nanny.

We do not practice any particular religion, but we are very happy to welcome people of any faith into our home. We are trying to raise our son with values of kindness, generosity, empathy, and openness to others.

We are a British/Canadian family who lives in London. We will be in Guatemala City for one of us to conduct research for a month from 15 April-15 May. We are looking for a kind and playful nanny to look after our son, Alexander, who is 2.5 years old. While both parents speak fluent Spanish, our son does not, so we need someone who can communicate with him in English (though we are very keen for him to start learning some Spanish during our stay).

Our nanny would mostly need to keep Alexander happy and busy during the day and to give him his meals during working hours. We would be especially interested in nannies who may also be interested in helping with some light housekeeping tasks and/or cooking (for additional compensation).

We are quite flexible about the days and hours to be worked, but would like to have someone available most of the day on weekdays at least (for instance 9-5, or 8-6 if possible). We would probably prefer a live-out nanny, but are able to provide accommodation in our rented flat in Zone 10 if needed.

We are happy to negotiate a competitive salary in line with candidate’s skills and experience.
