Introduction

I am writing to express my sincere interest in a Personal Assistant position with an office-focused remit. I am a 65-year-old South African woman with a compassionate, service-oriented background that includes five years living and working on an ultra-luxury cruise ship in retail management, a period of employment with the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA), and the past year dedicated to supporting my mother. I am now seeking a meaningful role where I can offer reliable administrative support, strong organisational skills, and a calm, professional presence in an office or business environment.

Who I am: I am calm, trustworthy, attentive, and respectful of others' time, space, and routines. People who know me describe me as a good listener who treats everyone with dignity and warmth. After many years in high-standard service environments, I am comfortable adapting to different personalities, maintaining tidy surroundings, and communicating clearly and kindly. I value honesty, patience, discretion, and creating an environment where colleagues and clients feel safe, respected, and well looked after.

Why I want this role: I genuinely enjoy supporting others and find it deeply fulfilling to help someone feel organised, efficient, and less burdened by daily tasks. Caring for my mother over the last year—coordinating appointments, managing schedules, handling correspondence, and ensuring everything runs smoothly—has strengthened my organisational and problem-solving skills. The Personal Assistant role appeals to me because it allows me to build a trusted, professional relationship while providing practical support such as diary and calendar management, email and correspondence handling, travel arrangements, meeting coordination, errands, and general office administration.

Why an employer should choose me: I understand that an office environment requires professionalism, discretion, and flexibility. Living in shared crew accommodation for five years on a cruise ship taught me to maintain high standards of cleanliness, respect rules precisely, and be mindful of others' privacy and schedules. I am reliable, easy to communicate with, and happy to support agreed-upon tasks such as managing calendars, coordinating appointments and travel, preparing documents, handling emails and phone calls, light filing, organising meetings, running errands, and providing general administrative support. Most importantly, I see this as more than a job; I hope to become a trusted assistant who makes the employer's days a little easier, brighter, and more organised.

Why I qualify: Although I do not hold a formal PA certificate, my background has equipped me with directly transferable skills. My time with CANSA deepened my empathy, patience, and understanding of how to support people facing health challenges and their families, while also exposing me to administrative tasks, client interaction, and coordination work. As a qualified Somatologist/Aesthetician, I am trained in gentle, respectful personal care, hygiene, and creating a calming, dignified environment—skills that translate into strong client service, attention to detail, and a professional demeanor. On the cruise ship, I worked long hours in a demanding, detail-oriented retail management role, serving a diverse international clientele that included many seniors and high-net-worth individuals. This strengthened my emotional intelligence, discretion, problem-solving, and ability to anticipate needs before they are voiced—essential qualities for a Personal Assistant in an office setting.

In my free time I enjoy gardening, and as a South African I have a deep appreciation for wildlife and conservation. Going on safaris and supporting game reserves is a particular passion; I love animals and value the work done to protect our fauna and flora. At home I enjoy reading and watching movies, especially drama and thriller genres. I am also interested in photography and travel. After my time as a Personal Assistant, I would love to spend more time in the African bush, working more closely with fauna and flora in conservation.

I am a quick learner, willing to follow instructions, attend any required training, and adopt best practices for supporting a professional or family office safely and respectfully. I take trust, confidentiality, and safety seriously and am committed to showing up consistently, treating my employer with dignity, and growing into the role with support.

Thank you very much for considering my application. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss how my experience and personal qualities could benefit your office and to explore a positive, supportive Personal Assistant arrangement. I am available for an interview at your convenience and can be reached by mobile or email.
