Family's Introduction to Au Pair
We are an Italian-American family looking for a wonderful au pair to become part of our home—not just as help, but as a trusted “big sister” and warm presence in our daily life.
In our family, we offer respect, kindness, affection, a sense of humor, and the lively warmth of a home where people care deeply for one another. We are looking for someone trustworthy, responsible, cheerful, open-minded, and genuinely happy to share family life with us.
Our family is composed of a mother and two daughters, ages 18 and 9. We are affectionate, expressive, sometimes intense and loud (the kids only are loud!), but always very close and full of love.
My older daughter is 18 and will begin university in the United Kingdom in September, so she will return home only a few times a year. When she is with us, however, the whole house feels her presence: she is a volcano of energy, full of ideas, humor, curiosity, and emotions. She has many interests, spends a good amount of time outside the house, and also divides her time between our home and her father’s.
My younger daughter is 9 and will be the main child in your care. She is affectionate, lively, imaginative, and very social. She loves spending time with friends, gymnastics, music, dressing up, doing her hair, and all things feminine and creative. Like many children her age, she also loves her iPad, which we try to keep within healthy limits. She can be energetic and sometimes a little bossy, but she is also warm, loving, and eager to connect with someone she trusts.
I am the mom, born and raised in Vicenza, Italy, and I bring to our home the values I grew up with: generosity, empathy, patience, good food, conversation, and family closeness. I work full time in the art field for an international organization and care deeply about creating a household that feels warm, organized, creative, respectful, and full of life. While my daughters are more expressive and passionate, I am more reflective, imaginative, and need to be quite practical. We are all affectionate and real. We laugh, we talk, we sometimes get loud, and we love each other dearly. We hope to welcome an au pair who will feel comfortable in a lively family environment and who will bring warmth, reliability, joy, and care into our home.
Job Description
The main childcare responsibilities include:
Each school morning, except Fridays, the au pair will prepare my daughter’s breakfast and school lunch and help her get ready for the day. Her school bus leaves at 8:05 a.m. I usually take her to the bus, but occasionally the au pair may need to walk her there, which is about a 10-minute walk.
From Monday to Wednesday, the au pair will pick her up from the school bus at 3:45 p.m., help with homework, and accompany her to activities or playdates. This fall, she will be busy with choir, ballet, gymnastics, water polo, and violin, so we are looking for someone organized, reliable, and enthusiastic about supporting an active child. During the day, there is plenty of time for language classes, personal activities, and the household tasks connected to my daughter, such as her laundry, cooking, keeping her bedroom and playroom tidy, and helping maintain an orderly home.
Weekends are more flexible and family-oriented. Saturdays and Sundays are usually a mix of playing, spending time together, running family errands, and sharing household chores. We believe that working together makes family life easier, lighter, and more enjoyable for everyone.
We are especially looking for someone who is happy to contribute to the home with care and initiative. The household responsibilities include:
Keeping the house clean, welcoming, and tidy, including the kitchen, bathrooms, floors, and bedrooms.
Helping keep toys, books, school items, and shared spaces in order.
Making the beds every day and helping the home feel calm and cared for.
Doing laundry, folding clothes, and putting them away neatly.
Preparing healthy, delicious meals for the family. Good cooking skills are very important to us, and we would be delighted to welcome someone who enjoys cooking and can prepare balanced meals with confidence.
Helping with grocery shopping within walking distance and organizing groceries at home.
This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who wants to be part of a warm, lively, and caring household, while also understanding that reliability, initiative, good cooking, and respect for a well-kept home are strong positive points. We are not order-fanatic, just would like a well functioning home for a very busy family. We would love to welcome an au pair who takes pride in caring for children and creating a happy, organized home life.
