Introduction
QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT WANT TO ASK:
1.How were you disciplined as a child?
As far as I can remember, there were instances that my parents used positive and negative reinforcements. When we do something that is not expected of us we are reprimanded and punished lightly; doing the household chores for the whole day. But it does not end there. My parents made sure that we understand why they are doing that to us. They made sure that there is value even in punishments. Nevertheless, those punishments molded me as a person today.
2.What do you find most challenging about caring for children?
The most challenging part about caring children is when they are on a tantrum. I mean, even parents struggle with this. Especially on infants and toddlers. But I learned to be patient.
3.How many hours at a time are you used to caring for a child?
I am a mother, I am with my child 24/7. I'm pretty used caring for a child.
4.What would be the maximum number of hours you could care for a child before needing a break?
I'd say 4 hours max but can extend hours if needed to.
5.What do you think children most need from an au pair/nanny?
Love, affection and deep understanding. Children yearn this the most towards their parents but as for todays time where parents are always away for work and comes home tired, I can fill in and make sure that your child don't feel being left out.
6.Have you been in an emergency with a child in your care? If so, what happened and how did you respond?
I've been in an emergency many times. I have 2 chocking incidents that happened with my nephew. Her mother was in panic. I was at the house when I heard my sibling calling for help. I stayed calm, assessed the situation and performed a choking maneuver. Thank God the object that's blocking her airways were out and my nephew was okay.
7.How would you like to spend your free time?
I am fond of watching movies and read books while eating something good. That's my hobby. It clears my mind and relaxes me.
QUESTIONS THAT RELATE TO THE CARE OF A PRESCHOOL OR SCHOOL-AGED CHILD.
8.What do you like about caring for preschool and school-aged children?
Preschool and school-aged children are developing children. They absorb things quickly. They are curious and knows how to reason. What I like the most is when they learn something from me especially moral values. That fills my heart and it gives me a sense of fulfillment.
9.Are there things you find challenging in caring for preschool and school-aged children?
As what I've said from the above question, they already know how to reason and are full of curiosity. They are full of energy. The challenging part for me is to how to channel that curiosity, energy and reasoning into an activity that will keep them engage and at the same time learn something.
10.What kinds of things would you like to teach my child?
The best thing I can teach your child are moral values like gratitude, honesty, respect and more. I came from a family that emphasize values as an important component of a human being. In addition, I can also teach your child life skills social skills, self-control and awareness. These are some life your child would need to cope up to society when he/she grows up.
11.What indoor activities would you do with my child?
When I was a child, I never really enjoyed going out not until I started studying for highschool. I like to draw and sing songs. So maybe, I can make some exciting activities that revolves around these two but we can also do some jumping and running around just to drain those excess energy.
12.How would you comfort my child if he/she was upset?
I've been through this a lot. Managing a child's emotion is as challenging as putting a thread in a needle. What I would do is the get down to the child's level, acknowledge their emotion, and if the child allows, give them a big hug. More often than not, this calms down the child.
12.How would you discipline my child if she/he was misbehaving?
I am a very patient person. Any misdemeanor can be solved through gentle communication. Nothing is achieved when we speak and act on a spur of emotion. However, if the child is acting rebellious and can't be reached through peaceful communication, consulting with parents is my best option.
13.What would you do if my child would not listen to you? Or refused to do what you said?
In situations like that, staying calm is the best thing to do. Don't get emotional. Assess the situation, maintain eye contact and go down to the child's level. Know what triggers the emotion and make the child feel he/she is heard. Reprimand if necessary.
14.Would you be willing and able to help with my child’s homework?
Yes. As long as its within my ability I'll gladly help.
15.Are you interested in helping my child learn words and phrases in another language?
Yes. That would be a stress reliever for me. To be away with my family, someone that knows my language is a big mood boost. If your child is interested in learning my language even my dialect, I'll gladly impart my knowledge.
