Hello dear families,
my name is Gemma, I come from Italy, I am 37 and I have been working in the field of education for about fifteen years.
All throughout this time I have worked as a nanny, as a child-care assistant in a Waldorf kintergarden, and as a homework assistant.
I am fond of pedagogics and I'm always trying to improve my knowledge and my experience in this field.
I appreciate the Waldorf school system and I am interested in anthroposophy, but at the same time I like to keep a wider mind horizon concerning the world of pedagogics.
I believe educating children is a great tool for educating ourselves and viceversa.
I am also fond of literature, art and music and I love to pass on my passions to children, when possible.
I am a singer-songwriter and I'm fond of traditional Irish music: I can play the piano, the guitar, the tin whistle and the Irish harp and I love teaching music to children.
I also love travelling and learning new languages: I can speak Italian, English and French and I am currently studying the Dutch language.

After spending some hard times in Italy, due to the pandemics, I'd really love to have a new life experience abroad now.
I love Northern Europe and I'd like to either move to Ireland or the Netherlands during the summertime.

My ideas on pedagogics:

I believe the present system of education is tremendously limiting for children.
Children are more and more regarded as mere "intellect", and in public schools they don't generally develop but the skills of calculation and logics.
Their genuine and creative side is normally ignored, to say the least.

As someone who received a "classical" education in Italy, I am familiar with Latin and Greek philosophy, and my idea of pedagogics draws on the spirit of the ancient 'Gymnasion'. According to Plato, Truth naturally dwells in the human soul and its awareness only has to be revived.
I believe one of the greatest skill to develop, as a human being, is that of thinking critically and develop your own thoughts about life and that's the aim I try to pursue with my pupils.
Also, I believe each human being has an immense creative potential and every child is an artist, so my attempt is to let them find out and develop their own artistic side. They can easily learn to create something which can be useful and beautiful either for themselves or for other people!
