Hello! And thank you for taking the time to read our information. We are a small, three person family, with mom, Emily, dad, Chris, and son Jack, living in Dubuque, Iowa. Jack is seven years old and all boy! He loves adventures, playing sports, exploring and generally getting as dirty as he can while playing outside. He also loves quiet things, like reading, and dancing and playing board games and watching movies. He is a good boy, who is respectful and truly cares about others. Mom Emily works in finance and is the Chief Financial Officer of a local company. Dad Chris is in the fishing industry and owns fishing operations in Hawaii. Right now, with Covid protocals, both Emily and Chris are mostly working from home. But, soon, Emily will be in the office from Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. most days. Chris will also start traveling to Hawaii for business more frequently as Covid restrictions are lifted (one of the perks of this job is that our family often travels to Hawaii together, and we always bring our au pair with us!)
For the past two years, we have had au pairs from Brazil. And we have fallen in love with both of them. We love learning about their countries, cultures, experiences and family. And we have tried to share as many of the great things about America as we can. We look at our au pair not just as someone who works with our son and lives in our house, but as a true member of the family. And, for a successful match, we hope our next au pair wants to also live as a member of the family. Our au pairs always eat dinner with us, attend events and Jack's school and sports functions, vacations with us, etc. In fact, our son, Jack, insists on referring to his past au pairs as his sisters. It is funny because he will introduce the girls to strangers as his sisters, even though they look nothing alike!
Before accepting a job with us, we will ask you to speak with our former au pairs, so they can share with you a first hand perspective on how it is being a member of our family. They also love Jack dearly, so we know they will make sure our next au pair is a great fit!
Dubuque is a medium sized town and a very nice place to live. Anyone who likes outdoor activities will love Dubuque. And, although not a big city, we have plenty of shopping, restaurants, bars and things that young girls seem to enjoy. We are also close to bigger cities like Chicago and Madison, Wisconsin and it is easy to go to either city for a day or a weekend. We provide our au pair with a car to use both with Jack and also in her free time to see friends, run errands, go shopping or for other adventures.
Our au pair will have her own room, and will share a bathroom with Jack. Being a very busy boy, he gets in and out of the bathroom as quickly as possible, so no need to worry about him hogging up the space. And, if there is a problem sharing with Jack, we have a separate bathroom available for our au pair, but it is downstairs. Either way, it should workout fine.

We have a 7 year old son, and taking good care of him is the number one priority. He is in school from 8:00 a.m. until 3:40 p.m. We need help in the morning from 7:00 a.m. until he leaves at 8:00 a.m., waking him up, giving him breakfast and getting him ready for school. During the time that he is in school, our au pair would generally have free time. We have a cleaning lady who comes once a week, so we are not asking our au pair to do any heavy cleaning. We could use help with laundry a few times a week and making beds and generally keeping the house picked up, but that is about it. Rarely do we ask for help with cooking or shopping or anything like that.
