Dear host families,

My name (nickname) is Nikki and I am currently an au pair here in the Netherlands. Before becoming an au pair here, I was a Science high school teacher in the Philippines for three years. Alongside my teaching profession, I also used to babysit my cousins children (nephews 2-3 yo). I also did volunteer work at a daycare when I was in college.

I would like to continue becoming an au pair so I could continue to provide house help and childcare to the family in need of my expertise while discovering the cultures of my next host country as well as its neighboring countries. I work best with kids aged 3 and above. I believe that I could share my passion for Science to my host kids by engaging them in fun and simple home activities and experiments. This way, the kids are occupied, my host parents know the kids are in good hands, and of course, less screen time.

In the Philippines, I have a family of 4 and my daily life there includes helping out with our small store, taking care of pets and I used to have a part-time job as a call center agent. My elder sister has a small fishing business that she manages at night together with her partner. My parents manage our small store full-time. We eat breakfast and dinner together since we all work from home. My dad is into gardening and planting crops while my mom works less because of old age and body pains. But all in all, despite having a small family, we have a great relationship with each other.

Currently, here in the Netherlands, I am taking care of two boys, aged 13 and 18. Supervision is minimal since they are already teens. And I do a variety of household chores and am capable of cooking. I would describe myself as proactive and self-sufficient. I might only need assistance in my first week but I learn quickly. My pro activeness, however, is limited by the time I have available on my schedule. But I do not mind helping. I am as curious as a young toddler. I figure out how machines work that I am not familiar with by myself.

As my contract expires in early July 2024, I seek for my next host family preferably in Denmark, Sweden, or Luxembourg. I am looking for a family that would treat me as part of the family and would respect the rules and schedule of the au pair program. My work would require a lot of energy and physical work and I look for a family that would let me have sufficient food. A family that observes, is loving, flexible, sensitive and is willing to help and step up when they notice that I do more than what is on the agreed schedule. A family that would be considerate and aware of my working hours.
