Introduction

Dear host family,
my name is Leslie, I’m 20 years old and I am a high school graduate with honours in the art section. Languages I can speak are Luxembourgish, German, French, English and I understand a little bit of tagalog.
I live with another host family at the moment and I would like to change families to get new Canadian experiences (Vancouver, BC is a great city, with great people, but I would love to experience new things too!) I took care of a 13 year old Canadian boy for over 6 months. We get along well and I helped with light house work too, such as vacuuming, moping, cooking, doing the laundry etc. I also drove him to school every day. I’m originally from Luxembourg and lived there with my father, stepmother and brother. My brother Marc and I get on well. My parents didn’t have the best relationship and divorced times later. At that time, I always took care of my brother when my parents didn’t have time to look after us. I also got a lot of help from our Au pair from the Philippines. I gained a lot of experience in taking care of my sibling, as well as my cousins from my aunts. I used to watch movies with them, Animes, drawing, and I also thought them mathematics for fun. My brother definitely is my favourite person.
I am highly motivated, ambitious, and have a clear goal in mind that helps me grow personally.

What are my interests?
I’m socially engaged, member of the national student association, a scout, a vocalist with singing lessons and a writer. After my Aupair year, I would like to study Acting in Germany. I'm very engaged in the film scene.
I have been a children's entertainer with a Brevet C certificate for two years. I completed a two-year training course, firstly obtaining Brevet A, then B and finally C. This allows me to organize camps and colonies for children, where they often spend 1-2 weeks sleeping in tents and having a great time with other children.
I was a member of my high school's student council for over three years, two of which I served as vice president and representative of my high school. I was also a member of the official national student office for over two years and attended meetings as a representative of all schools with ministers from Luxembourg, such as Claude Meisch and Yuriko Backes. The aim was to improve the economy of schools. I received many certificates for this and was awarded the Certificate of Merit six out of seven years.
I’m a holder of quite a few awards, such as the duke of Edinburgh bronze, silver and gold. As I am a scout myself, I am well versed in the field of “survival in nature.” This helped me greatly during the three-year training program for the Duke of Edinburgh's Gold Award. To earn this award, I first had to complete the Bronze Award, then the Silver Award by participating in various activities. In total, I completed 100 hours of sports, 100 hours of hobbies, 100 hours of volunteer work, and four hikes with a total of 11 hiking days and eight nights in tents, thus earning my Gold Award.
I was a founder of a small business called “LetzGuess”, which was founded as a school project for a Europe wide business competition. This small business, a digital online game about Luxembourg and Europe, designed and programmed by 17-year-olds at that time, gained a lot of attention on social media and is still available if you google it. We won gold in the national finals and were even awarded as third best small business Europe wide.
I’m very engaged in the film scene. I LOVE filmmaking. I really enjoy making films with my Sony A7IV and won several national awards in film competitions and been honored with the opportunity to produce and present my own short film as funded directrice and actress infront of a national audience. I was also selected to be one of 12 acting members in the official Luxembourgish series “TakeOff,” which releases its third season in January.
I am a music lover and have also taken two years of singing lessons and two years of percussion lessons on the xylophone. Unfortunately, I have forgotten how to play the xylophone, but I would like to continue singing lessons whenever possible.
I have always enjoyed writing books and stories, and I published my own children's book for 0-4 year olds entitled “I want to be an astronaut” in a 24-hour hackathon and published it in 3 languages.

Why do I want to be an Au pair and why in Canada?
When I was between 3 and 9 years old, I had an au pair who came from the Philippines. She was very responsible and admirable. We are still in contact today and I occasionally visit her in Germany, where she now lives with her husband, whom she met in Luxembourg. Through her, I have gained a lot of experience in how to deal with children and, like her, I want to be a role model. I am really very proud of her and I couldn't have imagined a better au pair.
I’m interested in this opportunity because I want to step out of my comfort zone, try out new things and broaden my horizon
