Family's Introduction to Nanny
We are a family of five: Me (mom), my husband, and 3 girls (8y, 6y, and 1y). We work from home mostly and stay very busy running an adventure tourism business in South America. First and foremost we need someone to look after the children. Ideally, we would like a professional nanny that can help with one or more of the following: housekeeping, cooking, house manager or personal assistant tasks, or homeschooling.
ABOUT US: We’ve been blessed with 3 beautiful girls and a demanding business to run with work we love. We work from home or on location in Ecuador. We are very focused on family AND work. We are active, fit, and do a variety of activities when possible. Most of our time is spent at the computer these days, but when we can we love to go hiking, biking, do yoga, work out in general, or paddleboard. We eat healthy (most of the time), but always have dessert. We love entertaining and frequently have guests or host events. We are a Christian family and we welcome all religions to apply. I’m an avid reader and learner and my husband loves rugby, sports in general, gardening, and any water-based activity. Our girls love anything in nature along with legos, ninja warrior, jumping on the trampoline, board/card games, puzzles, anything crafty, and sports.
Working in adventure tourism means we love adventure and travel! We've lived in Ecuador for the last dozen years and typically spend our time between Ecuador and the US with 1-2 months in NZ every year. We also have a cat, chickens, and fish.
CHILDCARE: We are very active in our parenting role and like to spend lots of time with the girls. But...we do need them to be looked after during the day so we can work. They are very energetic, love to be outside and to play, play, play. Lucky for us - they're happy girls. We want someone to let them discover the world and learn safely, be a great role model and be completely trustworthy. We are focused on raising responsible, resilient, and respectful children. They must help in the house, with meals, do age-appropriate chores, and be generally responsible and respectful. Your role is crucial to continuing to foster these qualities.
HOUSEKEEPING & FOOD: We are tidy by nature but need help around the house since we're busy.
If you are a NANNY/HOUSEKEEPER/COOK, we expect housekeeping and/or cooking to be your domain and an area you run. Rehoming items, keeping the floors and counters clean, cooking, clean up after meals, laundry - anything that contributes to a smooth-running household is on the table. I love having things neat and organized. I also love a stocked kitchen! Being more involved with grocery shopping, meal planning, and cooking would be great help if you like to be in the kitchen and cook. We are always keen to try new recipes, love almost all cuisines, and try to eat organic, clean, and sustainably most of the time.
If you are an AUPAIR, we expect you to contribute as you normally would while living and eating in a home — assisting with cooking, clean up, and keeping the place tidy.
YOUR TIME: We look forward to welcoming a new member to our family. We are looking for a hardworking, self-starter with a great degree of flexibility. Some weeks you may work more, some weeks less - everything depends on our schedule but we are happy to work with you. You’ll be invited along to almost everything we do and can choose to join or not. During your free time, you'll have a variety of active options or quieter pursuits. We are 5-15 minutes from a wake-boarding park, bowling, rock climbing wall, mini-golf, movie theater, and a park on the lake with a beach and hiking trails. If you do not have your own, a car will be available for you to use most of the time. While we are only 30-45 minutes from Atlanta, we live in the woods and it's great for running, biking or hiking.
YOUR SPACE: In Georgia, we have a walkout, daylight basement with a beautiful view, and garden where you’ll have a private room, bathroom, and entrance. In the basement, you’ll also have a shared space with a full kitchen and living room that doubles as a play space for the girls. We also have a full home gym if that’s of interest. In Ecuador, you will have a private room and bathroom that is also a guest bathroom. When we travel, we endeavor to get you your own room, but there will times you may need to share a room with the girls or some other alternative arrangement. Flexibility is a must.
NOTE: It's important to keep in mind that in Georgia we have a very comfortable life with all the amenities America has to offer. In Ecuador, we live in a remote area where things are more rustic and some of the creature comforts you may be accustomed to don't exist. The ability to adapt to your surroundings is crucial.
START: Late November to early December.
PAY: The monthly stipend is based on your role and your experience.
*Below is an overview of our wishlist. However, we can be flexible and accommodating for the right person. Please communicate with us about what you’re looking for and not looking for and we can see if a win-win scenario is possible. We also don’t necessarily need someone “just like us.” What’s most important is that you enjoy being with a family and children, are proactive and like to be busy, and support and care for others.
If you are a NANNY/HOUSEKEEPER/COOK, your role will be multifaceted with responsibilities in childcare, housekeeping, and cooking. You must be a proactive, autonomous caregiver experienced in running a household and balancing the responsibilities. Sometimes you have to stop and play with the girls, other times you need to make unloading the dishwasher into a game, and then there are times you just need to let them color on the iPad for 20 minutes while you zip around and get stuff done. Basically, the role encompasses everything that a stay-at-home mom does.
If you are an AUPAIR, your responsibilities will center around childcare, schooling assistance, and anything associated with the children. As a live-in caregiver, you will also be responsible for contributing to the overall functioning of the household by helping with things like meals, laundry, general tidying, etc.
*If you have an interest in HOMESCHOOLING, let's talk more as this is an option. We homeschool at the moment but put them in school occasionally.
REQUIRED: - US Citizen OR a valid US visa (we cannot help with this, unfortunately) - At least one year of experience with children under 5 - Ability to travel internationally for extended periods of time
PREFERRED: - Fluent English OR - Intermediate level to Fluent Spanish preferred but not required - Intermediate Cooking Skills
CHILDCARE DUTIES: - Daily childcare - Educational, Active, and Functional play (i.e. playing a memory game, going for a walk, or getting girls in the kitchen to help prepare food). - Schoolwork assistance - Speaking another language (preferably Spanish to continue their learning) - Keeping toys, clothes, snacks, diapers, bags organized and/or ready - Ensuring girls pick up after themselves, keep their room tidy and do their chores - Making sure nutritional snacks are offered and a balanced diet - It’s very important that you LOVE children
HOUSEKEEPER / COOK DUTIES: - Tidying and maintaining the home - Laundry and putting away clothes - Meal prep/planning, cooking & clean-up - Errand running and grocery shopping (organic and local foods as much as possible) - Miscellaneous house projects or assistant tasks as needed and if appropriate - Being organized and proactive in general
MISCELLANEOUS TASK EXAMPLES: Collecting mail, opening and recycling packaging, returns, miscellaneous errands, taking the car to get serviced, helping with packing and unpacking, dropping off and collecting dry cleaning, event planning, making service calls as needed, organizing areas of the home that need it, putting out trash/recycling to be collected, watering indoor plants, setting out snacks for guests, etc.
ANIMALS: We do have pets (a cat, chickens, and fish), but your level of animal interaction is up to you.
A WEEK IN THE LIFE: Each week we spend most of our time at home. The two older girls go to school 2 days a week and do homeschool 3 days a week. The two older girls are very self-sufficient and can help out with chores and they love playing in all forms and are super active. I try to get out with the girls for at least one fun outing weekly — the museum, a park, playdate, etc. Some weeks we do more -- I like to stay busy but also trying not over-schedule us. We have movie nights on Friday or Saturday. And we usually have a family or friend get together each weekend. We attend church on Sundays and often host life group. For at-home family fun, we watch documentaries or movies, go for evening walks, do puzzles and games, enjoy tea on the screened-in porch, bake, head to the lake, go for a swim or read books.
SCHEDULE: This is predominantly a Mon-Fri role (~7am to ~5pm) with 2-3 evenings per week as needed that may vary. We aim for consistency but different locations or special events require a different schedule at times. We do our very best to ensure you have two days off weekly, but this will depend on our schedule.
IN GENERAL: This is a very rewarding role for the right person. We've had a wonderful nanny for 6 years who is a part of our family. She has recently married and is relocating with her husband. We need someone who is honest, proactive, and organized. Our focus is on our business and our family. Ideally, we are looking for someone that will enjoy our family and our girls that is skilled in maintaining the home and preparing meals.
We look forward to hearing from you!
