My wife’s father, Clarence Kwangmin Kim, suffered from an ischemic stroke on 10/27/23. He was admitted to the Gachon University Gil Medical Center in Incheon and for the the last month they have been working tirelessly to medically stabilize his condition. Finally Appa is medically stable enough to transfer, and he will be transferring soon to Severance Hospital in Sinchon, Seoul by the end of this week or early next week. He will be there for 6 weeks doing his acute stroke rehab. We are in the process of finding him longer term care around that area as we need to fly back to the United States to make more money to support Appa. Appa is currently unable to move his right arm and has very limited motion in his right leg, so he cannot stand or walk yet. He can speak in small phrases with about 100 words, but he can understand fluently both Korean and English as he was born in Korea but immigrated to the US when he in his teens. He also has a weak heart condition that requires him to visit the cardiology doctor regularly to check up on his heart.

Therefore, the ideal caregiver candidate would be someone who can speak Korean and English, as well as be strong enough to support Clarence with getting in and out of bed, showering, helping him with his exercises, and catching him when he falls. We prefer a male international caregiver if possible, but understand that such profiles might be rare! Perhaps more important is that this international caregiver is also technologically savvy enough to help with ensuring Appa can use his iPad tablet to communicate with us. We will also be renting this rehab machine for Appa, and we will need the caregiver to help Appa do exercises on this machine every day and keep it turned on for multiple hours each day.

Please note that this machine is 18kg so requires quite a bit of strength to move up and down the hospital bed as needed, but aside from that all youll have to do is turn it on and it’ll do all of the physical labor for Appa to do his rehab exercises for extended periods of time, hours even!
But last ,and most importantly, we hope this caregiver is kind to our father. We don’t know how much longer he will live so we want his remaining time to be with someone who is patient and treats Appa with respect and dignity. We understand that we are asking for a lot of qualifications, and are willing to be amenable with some of these requests as needed.
