My husband and I are looking for a kind and compassionate caregiver for my mom who has mid-stage Alzheimers and who has been living at home with us for the last four years. You would share a newly constructed 2-bedroom apartment with her behind our home in our sweet town at the foot of the Appalachian Mountains. The apartment is newly constructed with two private entrances, a lot of natural light, a full kitchen, washer/dryer, and its own deck. Berea is a small artisan and college town with a strong and diverse community. We live within easy walking distance (5 min.) to trails, shops, restaurants and historic Berea College. Ideally, we are looking for someone who has experience with dementia and is interested in continuing education in this area. We adhere especially to Teepa Snow's Positive Approach to Care. We are looking for someone who is familiar with this approach, or is interested in learning.

My mother is a bilingual Spanish-English speaker in excellent physical shape, able to bathe and dress herself. She needs companion care and support with meals and housekeeping. We are looking for someone who can keep a clean home and a predictable routine, and who would be active with her by going on walks and giving her some variety and entertainment when she isn't at the adult day center she attends three times a week.
We can be somewhat flexible with hours and support with time off, etc. Our little family is composed of my husband, our 3-year old daughter, my 71-year old mother, and me. My husband I both work full-time but appreciate family time and building community when not working. We are multi-lingual dual citizens of our respective countries and have lived outside the U.S. at various points. We welcome partnering with the right caregiver at home and within our local and extended communities.

While we hope for a Spanish/English-speaking caregiver, we are quite open to anyone who is genuinely caring and the right energetic fit for my mom. Thank you for your interest!
