I provided home care for rotations of up to five patients a day. I keep track on their physical, mental and emotional state and offering a therapeutic communication to atleast make them feel safe and cared and as well as helping them with their essential life duties.

Elderly patients can forget basic task when they are ill or under stress, so I specialize in patient and caring education when it all gets a bit much. A significant proportion of my previous patients were not ambulatory, and I therefore develop the skills and strength required when dealing with patients. A second particular area is working with patients with dementia and Alzheimer’s.
As a caregiver, it teaches me patience and kindness. It forces me to live in the moment and be more forgiving and caring. It motivates clear, consistent communication. It reminds me of hope. My experience at a nursing home facility teaches me not to dwell with physical aspects but also involve emotional support by putting myself in the situation of the elderly to understand the mental and emotional challenges that come with aging.
It can be challenging at times, but I truly enjoy working with elderly residents. Though, I strive to make a meaningful difference in the life of the residents, the ongoing lessons I have learned from them have in return made a lasting impact in my life.
