Introduction
When someone has a diabetic seizure, there are many emotions to process and manage. You need to know how to comfort them, stay composed, and help them feel better. You have to give them insulin and all of their prescriptions, check on them frequently, and monitor their blood sugar levels each day. I now have to take care of her as part of my lifestyle, which is really labor-intensive. Later, my grandmother suffered a fall that broke her hip. She has made amazing progress by attempting to walk again and taking baby steps, even though it hurt to watch her in agony and I felt bad for her.
It was difficult to get her used to her regular responsibilities at home, put her in a wheelchair, adapt to her circumstances, and make modifications. She is making a good recovery, and I am happy for her. The other story is about my father, who was hospitalized for months in the ITC unit after developing a basic chest infection that eventually got critical. She is a powerful person for her age. You wouldn't imagine that a small cold or sore throat could cause that kind of illness. Every day was spent in prayer for him to survive. He entered a coma, and the medical staff and nurses were really helpful.
In several instances, they told us there wasn't much we could do, but we persisted and kept trying, going to the hospital regularly to see how things were going. He was in his middle years, and the medical staff warned us that if nothing changes, we might have to switch off the machines. We've all said that because the lungs are destroyed, you can't merely turn off equipment. However, he made it home after that difficult journey, and he is now gradually improving, albeit it takes time every day. I also take care of him.
During it all, I developed my ability to manage, adjust, stay composed under duress, and assume full responsibility. I've also discovered that having a career is a fulfilling one, and I enjoy being of service. And I have a greater appreciation for life. I decided to become a caregiver because I believed it was my responsibility to take care of the elderly and their loved ones. I am thankful and feel valued that I am taking care of my loved ones. It gave me the strength and independence to take care of them both on my own throughout life without constantly contacting experts.
In order to fulfill my obligations and take care of them both, I've learnt how to be professional, responsible, patient, attentive, and supportive. Working in the healthcare industry requires strong interpersonal and communication abilities. Being able to listen and comprehend also makes it possible for you to provide care effectively. Taking care of them is my daily responsibility, and because I've been accustomed to them and my routines, it's much easier and simpler. Being a caregiver requires a lot of labor.
And now I had intended to participate in the NCII Caregiving short course, TESDA, last September of 2023. I have since received my certificate, making me a certified caregiver and first responder.
