Hi, I’m Miekie — and when it comes to elder care, I believe the job is part practical support, part companionship, and part keeping the wheels (and wheelchairs) turning with calm and good humour.

I’ve personally cared for two dementia patients over the December holidays, handling everything from medication reminders and mobility support to emotional grounding during difficult or disoriented moments. I’ve learned how to hold space without taking things personally, how to stay patient when moods shift or confusion kicks in, and how to create small routines that bring comfort and safety.

I know my way around a wheelchair, I’m physically capable of assisting with transfers and support, and I’m the kind of person who won’t flinch when things get a little weird — but let me be upfront: I can deal with “crazy,” but I don’t do poop. If incontinence or toileting support is a key part of the role, I’m not the right fit. But if you’re looking for someone to help with companionship, mobility, errands, meals, medication, and keeping spirits steady — I’m right here.

I understand how important it is to preserve dignity, even when someone can no longer express what they need clearly. I also understand how exhausting it can be for family members — and sometimes just having someone reliable in the mix who isn’t going to make drama is a massive relief. I show up, I follow through, and I treat people the way I’d want someone to treat my own loved ones.

I’m available for part-time or live-out support in Windhoek. I have my own transport, a valid driver’s licence, and I can handle short-notice needs or relief care where a family just needs a breather. I’m open to overnight shifts if there’s no medical lifting or toileting involved.
