Introduction
Dear Employer,
Greetings from Nairobi, Kenya. My name is Lauryne and i am happy to write to you today. I am a health care assistant here in Nairobi working in a private facility called Metropolitan Hospital.
I have been working in the ICU, Med-surg and Impatient departments for the past one year now where i have gained so much experience because mostly the patients we receive are the geriatrics, vulnerable and post surgical patients. So a lot of care is needed to be carried out. I have also been doing a couple of home based care within my community although this one has been of my interest because i feel like i have a more calling in this.
The duties and roles i have are like;
1. Helping the patients and the residents in toileting.
2. Feeding them.
3. Bathing them and dressing them.
4. Walking them around for those who have easier mobility equipment like the walkers and also for the wheelchair residents and patients.
5. Making sure their environment is clean and tidy to prevent sepsis because these patients are vulnerable and are easy to be infected.
6. Providing companionship to them.
7. Ensuring that i have gone rounds during nighttime to ensure that they are okay and putting on the call lights near their reach.
8. Setting up a ventilator for a critical care patient and also during intubation and extubation periods.
9. Setting up a CVC procedure table for a CVC insertion to patients who have pulmonary oedemas or amount of water in the chest areas.
10. Preparing patients for theatre procedures be it minor or major procedures.
Well those are some of the duties and roles that i have been performing but i am that person who is willing to learn more and go an extra mile so that i can give quality care and be a better health care assistant or a caregiver.
