Introduction
My experience comes from caring for my mother, both in our home and within an elder care environment. I am able to manage issues that commonly occur with dementia, but also mental health decline that ofter accompanies aging citizens in general. I am patient, nonreactive when confronted with frustrations, proactive when I see a potential issue in the near future.
I am my patient's friend first, then their caretaker and protector. Too many times people simply need companionship to help them through a foggy moment, a friend to help when a situation becomes bigger than expected. Someone to help temper the embarrassment that accompanies getting older. I listen and try my hardest not to judge. I am firm when required but I also allow room for whimsy to happen, not just doctors appointments and counting out pills.
