Building a strong professional relationships with people is very important in one's life as it can open so many opportunities in the line of success.
What we sometimes call relationship networking is about building or creating connections and finding benefits from people in your field of work. Relating with people never ends as the world is increasing hence there is the need to socialize and make good use of the relating to people. People might be someway but for the sake of benefits you need to adapt and include them in our day to day endeavours.
With professional relationship in or outside your field of work helps you to acquire knowledge from people who are ahead of you and use it judiciously. I have had opportunity to walk with prominent enterpreneurs who have impacted the entrepreneurial skills to me. I was counselled to have the mindset of starting my own business after graduation in order to create avenue for employment to help reduce the rate of unemployment in the country.
Also, I have the opportunity to associate myself with health specialist who taught me on how to live a healthy life by eating early, exercising a lot, having enough rest and keeping personal hygiene. I was grateful to be part of their association.
Aside the in-person relationship, I have had social media relationships which has also been of a great help. I got to meet professionals from LinkedIn who normally post ideas and works which I have learnt so much from. I made effort to have interactions with such personalities and they were willing to give so much counselling on howto go about my life and work.
One thing I learnt in building professional relationships was humility. You need to be humble and meek to accept the opinions and counselling of people who have gone ahead of me and the way of maintaining the relationship is consistence interactions with the personalities involved.
Professional relationships in the world are crucial for success. Your success is dependent on someone leading and helping you. This is the reason good human relation is encouraged in all aspect of one's career. This is sometimes called 'who knows you and who do you know', that is how far you can go in life. I therefore choose to keep up good relationship with everyone I come across with.
Leadership is the act of directing, guiding, leading and influencing the behaviour and work of others towards the accomplishment of specific goals. As a leader, you first must be able to lead yourself and be a servant in order to gain the attention and response of your subordinates. Leadership is a crucial position one can attain as it demands some principles and qualities of the individual. Some qualities may include being disciplined in your way of life.
John C. Maxwell once said 'A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way'. As a leader, you must have the wisdom and knowledge about your vision and mission and as well as take the steps to getting the vision accomplished and helping and guiding others to follow the same pattern to achieve such accomplishment. That is who a leader is.
Firstly, during my undergraduate programme, we had study groups and project groups of which in my group I made great impact in the lives of my colleagues. I dedicated time to teach them courses they found difficulty in and had less knowledge about. I brought up ideas in the group which would make learning more effective and lively. I proposed that at least twice a week we meet to go through the topics taught in class and even study ahead in order for us not to be lacking. The days agreed on was in favour of everyone's schedule.
Secondly, I have quite a number of friends in the neighborhood and I was more like the gang leader so I had great influence on them. It is either they move with my idea or they don't move at all. They always call on me to give my opinion on any decision they want to take. For this reason, I proposed to them a clean up exercise every first Saturday of each month to make the community a clean, healthy and serene place to live in. They all agreed and it has been in session till date. Through this, we have had others joining the clean up exercise.
Lastly, after completing undergraduate programme, we are made to serve the country for a year. During this period of service, I was posted to Criminal Investigation Department Headquarters. Fortunately, I was made the head of all the service personnel at the workplace. Due to my strong leadership qualities, I was able to lead them in executing the tasks given to us by our superiors. It included making sure the results of investigations are ready before and within the stipulated time given by the supervisor. I also had to settle misunderstanding between coleagues for peace to reign for the job to be done.
Mahatma Gandhi once said "I suppose leadership at one time meant muscles; but today it means getting along with people".
