We are an easygoing small family which lives in two locations close by to each other. The father, at Malveira da Serra, the mother in Parede, a town which is accessible to Lisbon by train.
Stefan is German, Lisa is English/Portuguese, and we have two children, Alexander (12) and Leia (10). Alexander and Leia are both happy, kind, and well behaved and typical children: curious about the world and passionate about their interests.
The parents share custody with the children 50:50 and are very friendly with each other, having separated almost ten years ago, and often all four will spend time together. We both believe strongly that the children's needs come first and strive to have a peaceful environment at home.
The father lives in a four bedroom house with a large garden with swimming pool, in the beautiful mountain village of malveira da serra beside the national park of Sintra. His house is located close to some shops and pharmacy, and many running and walking trails, surfing beaches and climbing areas.
The mother lives in a four bedroom flat in a secure condo with swimming pool and security guard, small gym and garden right next to the beach. Her flat is located near shops, buses, and regular trains into lisbon.
We have lived in London 25 years and the children were born there. At home we speak English, and some Portuguese. The children are in an international school which is in Carcavelos, one stop by train from the mothers house, or a 25 mins drive from the fathers house.
Both parents are working in finance, and mostly work from home, though we travel from time to time for work mostly to London and a few times a week may go into Lisbon to the office.
We can offer either a fully live in role, partly live in role or live out role but prefer a live in situation as it affords more flexibility. The accommodation on offer should you prefer to live in during the week is your own room with double bed and ensuite bathroom, at the fathers property.
We are easy going and cosmopolitan so believe in our employees right to privacy and personal life on their own terms so we will not mind what our nanny does when not working provided it never interferes with the childcare.
For us the most important feature of a nanny is reliability, independence and that they should require minimal handholding and be proactive in anticipating the family's needs.

Looking for a nanny/au pair to assist a dual location family with school drop-offs, school pick-ups, cooking, homework supervision, clubs/kids social life, light housekeeping and occasional babysitting.
The role is for 40 hours a week which during term time may be more akin to 30 hours and school holidays 50 hours. Any unused hours in a week will be put towards babysitting / overnight extra hours.
You will have twenty working days paid vacation a year plus bank holidays (see below) and may be awarded a discretionary bonus at conclusion of each full year. The nanny will be paid monthly in arrears, 12 times a year. If the nanny requires social security deductions, these can be made and will be taken out of the nanny's salary. We have full workplace insurance to protect for accidents.
The nanny should be expected to work on bank holidays, in which case an extra day of holiday will be given in lieu.
We would prefer you to endeavour to take holidays whilst the parents are away with the children, which will typically be during the half terms, easter holidays, July to august and Christmas.
If the parents are away more than 20 working days then while away, the nanny may be asked to run other household tasks such as supervising workers, post office, arranging car and property maintenance, etc.
Nanny should have full, clean, EU or EU valid driving licence with no motoring offences and at least four years of driving.
The housekeeping required includes laundry and ironing for the family, keeping children's rooms tidy, cleaning bathrooms, putting on dishwasher, cooking meals as required, hoovering the houses, and tidying up kitchen at end of the day. It will also include shopping for food and general household tasks such as taking cars to be filled up/cleaned, etc.
The family needs a proactive and independent person who requires minimal supervision and direction to help the parents who are working full time and often travelling.
The children are fairly self-sufficient so the main help required is someone who can help the children with homework and encourage their development and social life away from devices/screens.
This is mostly a Monday to Friday role, with the two overnights of babysitting included per month which can be any night, and if not used one month to be carried over to subsequent months. Extra babysitting may be required from time to time, sometimes at short notice however we will endeavour to provide as much advance notice as possible.
We supply a (non-automatic gear shift) car and pay for petrol and the car insurance. We are ok with our nanny using the car for personal outings provided that the car is responsibly used.
The nanny must have the permanent right to be based in Portugal i.e. no visa issues.
This is a live in position, to be based at the home of the father but the role will be performed at the mothers house and fathers house roughly 50:50. At the fathers house you will have your own bedroom with wardrobe, double bed, and ensuite shower bathroom with lockable door on the ground floor.
The rest of the family lives upstairs. Reasonable Food and supermarket items that you need will be purchased for you in the weekly shop and you will have space for storage of food/other personal items if you require it.
Our nanny should not have outside work or responsibilities which conflicts with our role without our prior permission. However, if the nanny has other jobs on the side and we are ok with that, this is fine for us.
