Family's Introduction to Nanny

Dear Future Au Pair,
We would love to welcome you into our home as our newest family member and for you to partake in such a wonderful experience! My husband and I hope that we can both use our own experiences to improve your time with us and make you feel at home. Harry grew up with numerous Au Pairs in his youth, and it left a truly positive impact on him as a child. We hope that our own child will benefit from the same exposure to other cultures and languages, and that you as our Au Pair will help make this into a reality.
Furthermore, I (Lindsay) have had the amazing opportunity to be a youth exchange student for a year in Austria. During that time, I was fortunate to be able to travel throughout Europe and make lasting connections with people from all over the world. Of course, being abroad comes with its difficulties: cultural differences, homesickness, language barriers, etc. However, these challenges made me stronger as an individual and better equipped to deal with such situations. I hope that my time abroad will help me understand what you, our Au Pair, may experience- and I want you to know that I will be there to help you along the way.
Now that you know about our background with Au Pairs and time abroad, let me tell you more about us. Harry is originally from the United Kingdom, and moved here to Maryland about 5 years ago, so that we could be together. He currently works as an InfoSec Admin for a local company- so if you ever have any computer issues, we have an in-house specialist! He enjoys playing video games online with his friends, as well as spending quality family time with myself and our two lovely dogs.
As for me- I am originally from Pennsylvania with Pennsylvania Dutch (Deutsch) roots and have always had an interest in foreign languages and cultures from a young age. This fascination is what led me to learn multiple languages in my youth, and ultimately decide to do an exchange year abroad. Afterwards, I continued my foreign language studies, focusing on Arabic and Middle Eastern studies. Moreover, I maintained the other languages as a hobby and would continue to frequent Europe to visit old friends, absorb the culture, and practice my language skills. I remained along this language-oriented path even until this current day; I work as a translator for mostly Arabic, but I also translate French, German, Spanish, and Portuguese as the need arises. I am great at listening and reading for translation, but please don't quiz me on speaking!
Chances are I can understand your native language pretty well, and if you ever feel frustrated and would be more comfortable expressing yourself in your native language- that is 100% alright by me. I have been in your place before during my exchange year, and I want to make your time with our family as easy and enjoyable as possible.
What about our little one? Our baby boy, Bjorn is a happy, easy-going, delightful baby! He has so far loved his journey into adult food, and is developing well, he seems like he is ready to start walking any day now. :-) He loves books, games, toys, and his favorite movies are Encanto and Cinderella, which he watches in all the different languages.
We look forward to getting to know you better, and we hope that you and our family are a good match- and that we may all have an amazing experience during our year together!
Lindsay and Harry
