Dear Future Host Family,

My name is Mikaela, and I’m a 28 year old from South Africa with a background in design, sport, and coaching. I have spent the past few years working as a Senior Graphic Designer while also competing internationally as a triathlete and coaching athletes. My lifestyle has always been quite structured, active, and people focused, and I have been fortunate to travel and live in different parts of the world, including the United States and Europe. These experiences have shaped me into someone who is adaptable, independent, and genuinely curious about different cultures and ways of life.

At this point in my life, I feel ready for a meaningful change of pace. Becoming an Au Pair and Nanny feels like a very natural step for me. I have recently become an aunt to three little ones, all born within a short time of each other, and being part of their early lives has reminded me how much I love being around children, watching them learn, grow, and experience the world. I am drawn to the idea of being part of a family environment, contributing in a hands on way, and building real relationships, rather than working in a fast paced, screen focused role.

I believe I would be a great addition to your family because I bring a balance of energy, responsibility, and creativity. My background as an athlete has given me strong discipline, patience, and the ability to create structure and routine, something I know is important for children. At the same time, my creative career allows me to bring a playful and imaginative side, whether that is through arts and crafts, storytelling, or encouraging curiosity and self expression. I am also very comfortable taking initiative, being reliable, and creating a calm, positive environment for both children and parents.

In terms of experience, I have spent a lot of time around children through my extended family and have naturally taken on caring and supportive roles. I am confident managing routines, staying organised, and adapting to different personalities and needs. My international experience has also made me respectful, open minded, and easy to integrate into new family dynamics.

Ultimately, I would love the opportunity to become part of your family, not just as help, but as someone who genuinely cares about your children’s wellbeing and development. I am excited by the idea of sharing my energy, learning from your culture, and contributing positively to your home.
