Au-Pair opportunity with childcare experience

Dear Host Family,

I'm Susan, 24 years old from Nairobi, Kenya. I'm fluent in English and Swahili, and I speak German at A2 level with an ÖSD certificate. I'm currently learning B1. I’m a medical student in my final year and would like to take a gap year between my studies to experience German culture and support a family.

I come from a large extended family. Growing up I have always helped my mom, relatives, and friends take care of kids as they worked. I’m a Christian and a non-smoker.

Childcare experience:

Your children’s safety, growth, and happiness would be my daily priority. For over 6 years I’ve cared for children aged 4 months to 15 years, and my medical training taught me how to stay calm when kids are scared or unwell.

Here’s how I’ll support your children/ what I have experience with:

I'm not Montessori certified but I can implement the principle by explaining things simply, let the child try it first and involve them in real activities like cooking or tidying up spaces to build confidence

*1. For Toddlers 1 – 3 years*
I handle full care routines: diaper changes, feeding, nap times, and potty training. I sing, read, and play games that build speech and motor skills.

With my First Aid training, I respond confidently to fevers, falls, or choking. Your baby is safe with me.

*2. For Preschool & School Kids 4 – 10 years*
School runs are no problem – I have a Class B driver’s license and will obtain an international permit for Germany. After school I help with homework, practice reading, and organize fun activities: crafts, baking, soccer at the park, or library trips.
I set kind, consistent boundaries so your evenings are calmer.

*3. For Teens 10 – 15+ years*
I support teens as a big sister and mentor: English conversation practice, homework in science subjects, and safe rides to sports, music lessons, or friends.
My hospital experience makes me a trusted person for health questions, stress, or growing-up topics. I help with time management and life skills like cooking simple meals.
4. Special Skill: Anxiety or In-case a Medical-Need arises
At Kenyatta National Hospital I spend my time preparing scared children for X-rays, CT, and MRI scans. I explain procedures simply, distract them, and earn their trust.
I understand hygiene, allergies, asthma, and giving medication as directed by parents. I have learned to stay calm in emergencies.

How I will make your family's life easier:
- Cook healthy meals for the kids, do their laundry, and tidy up their rooms
- Keep a reliable routine – I’m used to hospital shifts, including nights and weekends
- Speak English natively and improve my German daily to communicate with your children
