Hi, I'm Getrude Nyambura. I am 23 years. And I am from Kenya. I'm the last born in my family just me and my older sister which means I spent most of my childhood watching, listening, and trying to keep up.
Because I was the youngest, everyone assumed I was the one being looked after. The truth is, our house was always full anyway. My mum took in two neighbor kids after school because their mum worked late as a nurse. My sister was in secondary school,so the "watch the little ones" job fell to me by default. I was maybe 12, doing homework on the floor while making sure Jayden didn't put beans up his nose and Wanjiku finished her porridge.I'm not coming with years of nanny certificates.
What I do have is real, daily experience with kids who are not mine, and the patience you learn when the power goes out in Nairobi and you have to finish a bedtime story by phone torch.

Why do I want to do this far from home? Because I grew up being looked after by a community, and now I want to be that person for someone else's community. I want to learn how your family does mornings, do you do warm milk or cold cereal? Do you bike to school in the rain? I want to mess up your language and laugh about it. In return, I'll bring what I know, how to make soft chapatis from scratch or any other food.

I'm looking for a family who doesn't need perfect, but wants present. Someone who will tell me straight when I've done something wrong, and let me tell you when your toddler has taught me a new word.
