Lovely greetings to lovely families. My name is Lexie and I am a 43 year old American, 3 years back in the US after living 8 years in Germany and Denmark. For almost 30 years I have worked with children as a leader and caregiver in various environments, allowing me to identify and promote the growth of their natural potential.
I am an experienced nanny utilizing a holistic “hands, head, heart” approach to interacting with children. I am also a certified yoga instructor, which I believe has allowed me to identify with my own body the way children identify with theirs: as something bendable, capable and meant to be used. In other words, I will spend time with your children playing, running, exploring and enjoying the outdoors. I feel that we have so much to learn from and to teach to the young ones. Interacting with children is for me one of lifes greatest pleasures, as one can't help but be infected by their curiosity and joy for living.
In 2002, living in Boulder, Colorado, I began working at a pre-school, forming bonds with families for whom I later became a nanny. In 2007, I moved to Fort Collins and became a live-in aunt who helped to raise my niece and nephew. At the same time, I found myself as the kitchen assistant at a Waldorf school, until I made the decision to move into the classroom as the assistant to the Lead Teacher.
After a year, my heart took me to Australia, where I spent almost 3 years. I worked in a Kindergarten, though I also helped with the other classes, including in the nursery.
When I returned to Colorado in 2009, I became the nanny for a couple of families I had known from Riversong Waldorf, as well as working at the school on a part time/substitute basis. I have cared for infants and children up to 7 years on a regular basis, and occasionally older children and teenagers.
In 2010 I completed my first yoga training and became a certified yoga instructor. I worked at a studio as the front desk manager, as well as an instructor. Three days a week we offered daycare, which I ran. One day a week I volunteered in the kindergarten classroom of a bilingual elementary school.
In 2011, I finished my second yoga training in Hawaii, after which I also began teaching yoga to children.
In the summer of 2011 I left for Africa for a marine conservation volunteer program in Madagascar, where I stayed for 4 months, becoming a divemaster while collecting data on sea life and coral reefs. We worked within the community, teaching English to the local children through dance, song, reading and games. After Madagascar, I traveled around Africa, exploring this wild and wonderful continent for 6 more months.
In 2012 I moved to Berlin where I worked once again as a nanny, at first with multiple families, but then stayed with one family for 5 years, also working as a personal chef. After Berlin, I moved to Copenhagen and became a live in nanny to a precious little boy, as well as running the household and doing all the cooking.
For 3 years during my time in Berlin and Copenhagen I also mentored a young girl from the age of 12 until 15.
Being with children is very natural for me. I feel that we have so much to learn from them, as well as providing the building blocks to enrich their minds, bodies and spirits.
As you can see, I am an explorer. However, my sense of adventure and my love of nature and the wild outdoors is an asset which allows me to connect with children. Do not fear, I am very responsible and reliable and when I commit to something, I commit 100%.
