Visa Information

The process of finding the right aupair can be fun and exciting, yet there are a few details that need to be addressed before you begin your search. Review the visa programs for your country, so that you are focusing your search on candidates who are eligible to work in your country. If your country's visa programs are not listed, contact the embassy or consulates office for details on the programs available that would meet your needs. If you are hiring an au pair from your home country, no visa is needed.

A tourist or visitors visa is not a legal work visa in any country in the world. Although many countries allow entrance with a valid passport, this entry does not typically allow you to work. Only EU and Schengen members can work in EU countries with just a passport. Please see individual country rules for exceptions.

If your candidate arrives in your country on a tourist visa and informs customs she/he has come to work, they will be deported. So please review the visa programs before making your final arrangements

The United States and Switzerland have established Au Pair Programs that require you to work through an authorized agency in order to host international candidates. Some aupair agencies will offer you a pre-match discount off their placement fees for finding your own au pair. There is a great value in being proactive. You have more options; more control and you can be more discriminating in finding the right au pair.
