Introduction
Hello Future Host Family,
I hope you are doing well. My name is James, and I am writing with great excitement and a warm heart to introduce myself as a possible au pair for your family. Thank you for taking the time to read my letter. I truly appreciate the opportunity to share a little about myself, my background, my love for children, and why I would be honoured to become part of your family.
I come from Kenya, where I was raised in a caring, respectful, and family-oriented environment. Growing up, I learned the importance of love, responsibility, kindness, and supporting one another through both happy and difficult moments. Family has always been the centre of my life, and I believe that strong family relationships are built through trust, communication, patience, and spending meaningful time together.
I would describe myself as a kind, calm, responsible, respectful, and hardworking person. I enjoy helping others and creating a positive atmosphere around me. I am also adaptable and open-minded, which I believe are important qualities for living with a host family in a new country and becoming part of their daily life.
One of my strengths is that I speak very good English. I am comfortable communicating with both children and adults, and I enjoy having conversations, explaining things clearly, reading stories, helping with homework, and encouraging children to express themselves confidently. Good communication is very important when caring for children, and I believe my English skills will help me build a strong and trusting relationship with your family.
My experience with children comes from caring for my younger siblings and children in my neighbourhood. My sister is 15 years old, my brother is 10 years old, and I have also helped care for a neighbour’s child who is now 4 years old. Through these experiences, I have learned how to be patient, attentive, responsible, and understanding of children’s different personalities, emotions, and needs.
I have spent time helping with daily routines such as preparing simple meals, keeping children entertained, assisting with homework, playing educational games, and making sure they feel safe and supported. Being involved in children’s lives has shown me how important it is to listen to them, encourage them, and create an environment where they feel comfortable and loved.
Some of the activities I enjoy doing with children include:
- Playing outdoor games and sports
- Drawing, colouring, and simple arts and crafts
- Reading storybooks together
- Singing songs and dancing
- Helping with homework and school projects
- Taking walks and exploring nature
- Creating fun learning activities that help children develop their creativity and confidence
What makes me happiest is seeing children smile, laugh, learn something new, and feel proud of themselves. I understand that children need not only supervision, but also emotional support, encouragement, and someone who genuinely cares about their well-being. I would love to be a positive older brother figure for your children—someone they can trust, have fun with, learn from, and feel comfortable around every day.
In my free time, I enjoy reading, listening to music, learning about different cultures, spending time with family and friends, watching educational or inspiring content, and improving my personal skills. I believe in continuous growth and always try to learn something new from the people and experiences around me.
The reason I would love to become an au pair is because I am interested in much more than simply working abroad. I want to experience a new culture in a meaningful and personal way by living with a family, sharing everyday life with them, learning their traditions, and building genuine relationships. I believe that cultural exchange is a beautiful opportunity where both the au pair and the host family can learn from each other.
I would be very happy to share Kenyan culture with your family, including our traditions, food, music, stories, and way of life. I enjoy learning about how families in other countries live, celebrate special occasions, spend time together, and raise their children. I believe these experiences help people become more understanding, open-minded, and connected to the world.
What I hope to find is a warm, welcoming, and communicative host family who will treat me as a member of the family rather than just an employee. I value honesty, respect, and cooperation, and I believe these qualities create a happy home for everyone. In return, I promise to be trustworthy, caring, responsible, flexible, and supportive. I will always do my best to help make your daily family life easier and more enjoyable.
I understand that leaving your children in someone else’s care is a big decision, and I want you to know that I take this responsibility very seriously. Your children’s safety, happiness, comfort, and development would always be my priority. I would be commi
