Dear Family,
My name is Maya & I am an experienced childcare professional originally from San Francisco, California, and now living in Utrecht.
I have worked in childcare since I was 16 years old, but have taken the last few years off for my work as a professional chef (which I still do part time). I have worked as a babysitter, full time nanny, camp counselor (for both day & sleep away camps), and a teacher’s assistant/tutor while working towards a degree in Early Childhood Education at Boston University. I am now enrolled in the Teacher Education program in English at the Hogeschool Utrecht.
I believe in a child centered approach in all things, tailoring any care or education to the needs of each individual child, as well as the desires of their parents.
Because of my experience, I am both well qualified & extremely passionate about working in childcare, especially when it comes to education (both formally and informally). I love taking part in informal education with children, weather that be reading to or with them, writing exercises, educational activities (math work, science experiments, directed & freeform art projects), field trips (museums, farms, pools, lakes, etc), and a plethora of other activities.
Due to my work as a professional chef, I am also passionate and experienced in cooking for & with children and families. I believe teaching children basic cooking skills is a valuable life skill, as well as a way to learn about the world around them. I have experience tailoring cooking to accommodate different food allergies, intolerances, and diets across the spectrum.
I am on time, reliable, extremely communicative, and always safety conscious. I have been first aid & lifeguard certified, and have experience teaching swim lessons for children of all ages.
