Family's Introduction to Au Pair
Greetings au pair,
Ever driven a Tesla or a 4 wheel drive truck? You will. Do you often practice yoga in the garden or tell stories by the bonfire? You can. WE ARE VERY FLEXIBLE ABOUT START DATES.
That is available with my host family. Let me make some introductions, I am Russell , everyone calls me Duke and I am the head of household. I work a variety of jobs from Property and Financial Manager to Data Analyst. It keeps me too busy to take care of work and the family that I love. My partner is Shannon. She is a tough as nails welder at the Airport. My son, James (10), we all call him Jimmy, is a smart and strong boy. He needs to do a little more cardio, especially during soccer games. And we just had a baby Freya (1month), who is healthy and will be looking to you for some nurturing.
I like high levels of communication and an orderly household, but not overmuch. It is easier to get along with everyone if there are clearly delineated boundaries. The schedule will be about 35 hours with a time for rest and a time for work. Work will be Tuesday-Friday begin on at 8:30am and end at 5:30pm under normal conditions. You will have Sunday and Monday off. If we need you on Saturday we will let you know a week in advance.
You will have freedom. I will be providing a and/or service through my business as a perk. I encourage you to go out and see the world. There is the Wolftrap theater within walking distance and the metro allows you to get to the city to see all sorts of shows and sports. The nature around here is amazing with Meadowlark botanical gardens and many others. Amid all this fun, do not forget you will also have responsibility.
Your primary role will be taking care of little baby Freya. She is healthy and has been easy. You might be amazed at how fast she grows. When the weather is good, you can take her for strolls in the botanical gardens. You will be there for her first steps and her first words, which is magical.
For Jimmy, you will only have a secondary role, but you may like to know about my schedule. I have him every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning as well as alternating weekends. We will probably be doing occasional projects with a 3D Printer and robots. We will also do daily workouts and soccer games. You will only have to pick him up and drop him off at school on occasion.
You should not worry about food security and groceries because there are many international shops nearby. We eat a lot of meat. It is not necessary that you eat meat, but understand we will every day.
My family likes to go outdoors. We take canoe, hiking, fishing, skiing, and hunting trips. Things have slowed down since COVID, but it is time to restart the adventures. Typically, every summer there is an EPIC adventure. One year we went to the Northeast and high point hiked several mountains, visited Martha’s Vineyard, Boston, and Portland (Maine). The other year we drove south down the scenic waterway, played on the beach a ton, jet skied, fished for sharks, and slept in an aquarium. You can only imagine what it is like to open your eyes from a dream to wake up to a whale shark floating feet from your head. The cities we stopped at were Cape Cod, Charlestown, Jeckle Island, Hilton Head and Atlanta.
Welcome,
Duke
