We are new parents with our first child Ariya (Ari) born on Aug 22, 2022. We're excited about this new journey, and would love your help in making our child's early years run smoothly. We are looking forward to learning about your culture, food and customs and helping give our baby diverse experiences.
Sirima and Ben were both born and raised in Raleigh and moved back to Raleigh 5 years ago to be closer to family after spending a few years in Northern California. Raleigh is a medium-sized city on the east coast of America. The summers here are warm (32-38C) and the winters are mild (-3 - +7C). Raleigh is part of “The Triangle,” which refers to the city of Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill. There are 3 well-regarded universities in each respective city (North Carolina State University, Duke University, and University of North Carolina), which lends to a young and vibrant population with lots to do. Raleigh is also well situated between the Blue Ridge Mountains (4 hour drive west) and the North Carolina beaches (2-3 hour drive east).
We're a laid back late-30s American couple. Sirima is Thai-American and is a veterinarian who currently works 3 days a week (M-W) from 07:00 till around 19:00. Ben is a software developer who works from home 5 days/week starting around 09:00. He often takes a 2-hour break in the afternoon to go to the gym and works until 19:00. On the days that we both work, you would be caring for Ari for about 10 hours/day. The days when Sirima is off, our schedules are a bit more flexible.
We are an active family and both enjoy working out. Ben participates in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Sirima goes to a nearby gym and takes group fitness classes. On the weekends, we enjoy cycling on the Greenway with family. Raleigh’s Capital Area Greenway is one of the country’s most extensive networks of paved trails and locals enjoy using the trails for walking, running, cycling, and skating. We also enjoy hiking and visiting the many North Carolina State Parks. When we are not working up a sweat, we love hosting friends and family at home or trying out new restaurants/breweries around town. We also love to travel internationally - exploring new sites, learning about different cultures, and tasting new foods.
We live in a 2-story house in a historic district of downtown Raleigh. It is a quiet but lively neighborhood with many opportunities for social engagement with neighbors. Our 2 older, adopted Chihuahua’s love going on walks around the neighborhood, admiring the historic homes. Our home is also within walking distance to many great local restaurants, cafes/breweries, and shops.
You have your own 60m^2 apartment in the basement. It has a private entrance and a separate living space, bathroom, laundry room, and small kitchen.
We are looking for an au pair who can help us raise our baby and share your culture with us. We hope you can make friends here, take advantage of educational opportunities if they interest you and have as much independence as you want outside of work.
