Dear Au Pair,
My name is Elisabete and my husband’s name is Paul. We are in our very late 30s (I’ll be 40 years old in a few months) and we have one daughter, she’s 2 years and 5 months, and we are planning on having another child in the near future. My husband is active-duty military and I am a stay-at-home mom.
We want to host an au pair because we realized it is the best childcare option for our daughter. There is a saying that goes “it takes a village to raise a child” that really resonates with me. But because we are military, we do not live near our extended family, and as such my daughter does not have too much exposure to other people of different ages and personalities. Having an au pair would help with that exposure, and because you will become part of our family, my daughter will form a strong bond with you and look up to you as an older sister. And most importantly, she would have a loving connection with you and trust you, so that she can be herself. Furthermore, learning and being around another culture will be great for her development.
I know every parent says this about their children, as they should, but my daughter is amazing. She’s such a happy child, she loves playing outside and exploring her surroundings. She loves to learn new things and do everything by herself. She’s so full of life. She’s very smart as well, just like all kids her age, and I am thankful that I get to be at home with her to see how her mind works.
My husband and I are pretty easy going and laid back. We love to travel, we don’t do as much far away traveling now, since we have a little one, but we still take advantage of what the local community has to offer. We like to hang out at home, go out to dinner, go on walks, go to the park, playgrounds or pool.

We'll need the au pair to help with morning routine (get dressed, make/eat breakfast) and to watch/interact/play with our daughter throughout the day. In addition, we'll need the au pair to drive our daughter to activities around the local area. These duties would be performed daily. The hours would be approximately from 0800 to 1600/1700 from Monday - Friday, and a couple of hours on Saturday morning. Not to exceed the 10 hours a day/45 hours a week limit. The au pair's 1.5 days off would most likely start on Saturday afternoon and into Sunday. But depending on what we have going on that week, the day off could change slightly, but it will all be discussed with the au pair in advance.
We would absolutely love for the au pair to feel like she's part of the family and feel comfortable to be herself. We would prefer that she hangs out with us as much as possible, and do whatever we're doing. Like eating with us and doing/going to all other activities/events/trips we may go to. But we understand that sometimes she may also want to have quiet/private time and time away from the house.
