Thank you for looking at our profile. We haven't done this before, but have heard wonderful reviews about au pair programs from busy, adventurous families like ours. Saul and Grace have had the same nanny, Laura, for 3 years. She is headed off to nursing school and we are searching for a childcare option that provides the flexibility and reliability of an in-home au pair. And the major bonus - we live in the most beautiful place on earth - ALASKA!
We want you to feel welcome in our home and into our family. Yes, this is a job, but it is also a big life experience! We want to make sure you have an excellent time. In the summer and fall, we like to spend as much time outside as we can. We hike, go to the beach, play at the playground, go to the Farmer's Markets, and visit the zoo. The kids are learning how to ride balance bikes, so that has been a fun activity too. We have an RV that we take on adventures in the summer so we can explore other parts of our beautiful state. We go back to Josh and I's hometown for a month in the summer (Ketchikan, AK) to visit family and enjoy the warm weather. In the winter, we suit up with proper clothes and we still get outside! We love to play in the snow and go sledding. We also don't want to freeze so we enjoy play time inside at various toddler-friendly gyms and we go to the library and the museum. At ages 3 and 2, everything is absolutely fascinating to Saul and Grace. It is a wonderful stage in their lives and we are hoping you enjoy it as much as we do.
We are hoping to find someone who has the energy to keep up with them, but also fits into our low-key lifestyle. My husband Josh is introverted: he is kind, gracious, very helpful, and pretty quiet. I am an extroverted introvert: I am very social and energetic, but I like time alone to recharge. Josh and I's work demands are varied and can be consuming, but I am a planner and a problem solver. I use a variety of apps, tools, and services to make our busy lives easier (Grocery delivery saves me! I couldn't live without our cleaning lady! Lawn care is a requirement! I have a Handyman on speed dial!) so we can focus on the most important things in our lives: Saul and Grace, yet also tend to the needs of our demanding careers.
As a side note, we spend January - May of each year in Juneau, Alaska for my job. We have another home there and we move the entire family (including you!) with us. In May we move back to Eagle River until the following January. So you would get to experience living in two locations in Alaska: Juneau is in the southern panhandle, which has mild temperatures in the winter and a warm springtime, and then going back north to Eagle River for our endless summer nights (the sun doesn't set until 11:00pm!) and the beautiful fall season. You have a private bedroom and private bathroom in both homes that is on a separate floor from the main living space. We will also provide you with a car that is well maintained and safe to drive in winter conditions. And of course you are welcome to use the car on your time off to adventure.
I am hoping that the right fit for our family can ease into our routine and ensure the kiddos are cared for, nurtured and enriched. Basic responsibilities:
- General care of children (dressing, feeding, snuggling, playing, reading, potty training, etc.)
- Light food prep for kids
- Light cleaning (only need to tidy up kids' & your areas)
- We would love our kids to be exposed to your language, and for you to practice your English if you would like!
- Driving is a must
