Family's Introduction to Au Pair
We are very excited and are looking forward to meeting you and welcoming you into our family. We would love to show you a part of our beautiful country and familiarize you with our culture and traditions. Also, we would love to learn about you, your country, and your traditions. We want to be that "stepping stone" in your life that will help attain your goals. We hope to build a lasting relationship that will keep us connected and in touch years ahead.
We live in Centreville, Virginia, which is one of the suburbs of Washington DC. You’ll be able to experience the quiet suburban life as well as the Capitol of the United States and all the history, culture, museums, parks, restaurants, night life and shopping that it has to offer.
About our family:
- Annika is our beautiful 1-year old baby-girl. She is nothing but pure joy, a very happy baby that loves to be around all of us and be involved in all the activities (or as much as possible).
- Timmy is our inquisitive 5-year-old who is not only adorable, but full of energy, ambition and is very sweet. He is also assertive and loves being independent. And he has a smile that will melt anyone’s’ heart!
- Reed is our active and very bright 7-year-old who is a very considerate and loving boy. He loves to sing, dance, learn new things, explore, ice skate, play golf, football, baseball, run around and engage in all the activities kids love to do.
- Kevin, also known as Dad, works in management full-time and loves to spend his free time with the kids, playing golf, cooking, watching golf on TV, and any form of yard-work. He has had prior experiences hosting au-pairs which were all very positive. Having traveled to 18 different countries in the past, Kevin loves to learn about other countries and its people, their cultures and traditions.
- Kate, also known as Mom, works full-time as a Laboratory Scientist at the hospital and loves to spend time with the kids, read, run, and organize pictures or anything around the house. She is originally from Belarus and came to the US as a foreign exchange student. She is thrilled about the opportunity of being the host parent.
- Jake is a 29-years old and currently lives in Baltimore, MD, while attending Johns Hopkins Medical School. He loves to stay active with running, swimming, golfing and spending time at the gym. We hope to see him around holidays.
- Thomas is a 26-years old and currently started working for NIH as a research associate. He also loves to stay busy with golf and various other activities. We also hope to see him around holidays.
One of our main goals is to provide a loving, yet structured environment for our children where they can learn, play and thrive. Our day starts with parents getting up around 5 am to do house chores and prepare lunches for the children. The boys are up around 6:30 am and are on the way to school no later than 7:15 am. Mom usually picks up the kids around 3:10 pm and drives to various activities such as ice-skating, swimming, baseball, etc. We always sit down to eat dinner as a family (right around 6pm) with no television in the background or use of cell-phones. Between 8 and 8:30 pm is prep for bed and 9 pm is bed-time. On weekends we try to visit parks, museums, markets and any other activities the city has to offer.
The most help we could use is getting the kids ready in the morning and driving them to school, then picking them up and taking to the activities as well as helping get them ready for bed. Mom works every third weekend and we may need some help during those weekends. Your typical day will be taking the kids to school and spending time with them from 3pm to 8pm during the week and helping us on occasional weekends. While we would love for you to join us on our quest to the city museums and parks, it is entirely up to you. During your time with the kids we highly encourage educational activities such as reading books, playing developmental board games, going over alphabet or numbers’ flash cards; playing outdoors; and taking them to their sporting activities (we will provide you with the car). You will have plenty of time during the week to take classes in the nearby Colleges and Universities. Living so close to the main city gives you a plethora of school choices (i.e. George Mason University, Northern Virginia Community College, George Washington University, Strayer University, Marymount University, University of Mary Washington – to name a few).
Our ideal Au Pair is someone kind, who would treat our children as her own, and someone who would never hesitate to ask a question and to communicate openly. We do not believe in using physical force to discipline (such as hitting or spanking), we believe in positive reinforcement to maintain order and discipline. We highly value qualities such as punctuality, discipline, cleanliness, good sense of humor and a positive outlook on life.
We can't wait to meet you and introduce you to our family!
