Dear host family,
First of all I would like to thank you that you take the time to read my letter. With this letter I would like to bring you closer to my life. I will try as best as possible to describe my life here, my wishes and dreams, my friends and family and of course myself.
My name is Ivan , I’m 25 years old and I’m from Uganda. I’m living in a little village called Butiiki. with my mother,6 grand children ( Nabirye,Kylu,Ramishi,Ryan,Medi and Shadrack),my sister( Diana) and brothers( David,Isaac and Alvin). Am in an extended family which includes children from 1-19 years best friends are always children since we have alot to do with them i.e. playing together,singing, watching movies,Video games among others.
I have a very loving relationship to all of them, what becomes pretty noticeable by the way we’re dealing with each other.
For giving you a first impression of me I want to start telling you something about me and my personality:
I would describe me as a reliable, friendly, positive and open-minded boy/young man who is interested in getting to know new countries and people. In my free time, I love doing different kind of sports e.g. video gaming, playing volleyball, football,bicycle riding and sometimes swimming and music. Furthermore, I really like football and bicycle riding, so I would love to go together with your kids, too. Now since 2 years, I have been looking for a strong football team to train in, however, I got not any. I also enjoy meeting new families and friends, watching new films at the cinema, reading a good book and travelling through the world.
I am looking forward to learn how to drive and moreso own an international driver’s license if given such opportunity.
I graduated in HIV/AIDS COUNSELORS course at certificate level and now I work as a volunteer counselor and an adolescent peer educator at an NGO caring for people living with HIV.
To go abroad as an Au-Pair has been a wish of mine for several years now. Moreover, the year as an Au-Pair abroad also is some kind of a journey to find myself.
Finally responsible for myself, in fact independent from the people, who mean a lot to me but who are in a way also restricting me, I want to discover the needs I have and who I really am. The
rest of the world,here in Uganda better known as „Pearl of Africa“, are highly appealing to me. The country, the people, everything seems to be similar and on the other hand totally different from the things here. That’s why I want to check and verify what I associate with abroad or alternatively to displace it by contrary experiences.
I’m persuaded of being able to be a good,because I’ve always been loving children and I had the chance to gain experiences with children in lots of different scopes.
Now I would like to tell you something about my experiences with children.
I have been engaged in children and adolescent clinic at hospital as a peer educator where children and young people are cared and managed of age 4-24 years. We played games, ate together, sang songs, did handicrafts, read out for the kids and played in the big garden every day. I enjoyed these being part of this and it was a helpful experience for me to care for so many kids at the same time.
Furthermore, I did a little bit babysitting for a neighbour family with 2 kids (now 3) (6,4 and 3 years). It was often at the evening, so we first played something together, got ready for bed and finally I read out for every child for about a year in 2020 amidst COVID break which increased my experience in child care .
In conclusion, I would like to thank you very much for taking your time to get to know me better. I am looking forward to being an Au Pair and also a family member in your family and to spend a great and unforgettable year.
