Introduction

Dear Future Host Family,
My name is Chelsea, I am 24 years old, and I come from the beautiful coastal city of Durban in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. I currently live with my parents and my two siblings, and I was raised in a home filled with love, respect, and strong family values. Being kind, caring, and supportive of one another has always been at the heart of my upbringing. My younger brother and sister mean the world to me, and we love spending time together as a family—whether it’s going out for dinner, visiting the mall, or simply exploring new places. We are very family-oriented and always excited about new adventures and travel opportunities. My parents are my biggest supporters and constantly encourage me to grow and reach my full potential.
I matriculated in 2018 and went on to play hockey for North-West University. Hockey has been a huge part of my life since the age of 13 and has taught me discipline, teamwork, and commitment. I currently work as a part-time administrative assistant and also have experience as a waitress and sales assistant. I would describe myself as reliable, friendly, independent, and open-minded. I enjoy staying positive, embracing new experiences, and learning about different cultures. In my free time, I’m usually at hockey practice, at the gym, or outdoors enjoying nature. I also love trying new restaurants, cooking, reading, and spending quality time with the people I love.
I have always had a deep passion for working with children. From a very young age, I naturally took on the role of caring for younger children in my family and loved being “my mom’s little helper.” One of my earliest childcare experiences was taking care of a close family friend’s baby from around two to four months old, which brought me so much joy and taught me patience and responsibility. I have also cared for siblings aged 6 and 7 after school, helping with daily routines and activities. I find it easy to bond with children and genuinely enjoy creating a safe, fun, and nurturing environment for them.
For the past year, I have had the incredible opportunity to work as an au pair in the Netherlands. This experience has truly been life-changing. I absolutely loved working with children—doing fun activities, supporting their daily routines, and watching them grow. I also cherished the cultural exchange, traveling, and most importantly, building a strong and meaningful bond with my host family. Living abroad taught me independence, adaptability, and confidence, and it confirmed that working with children is exactly where my heart is.
It has always been a dream of mine to experience life in another country, and I am beyond excited about the opportunity to join the USA au pair program. I am truly looking forward to starting this new chapter, learning about American culture, and becoming a positive and supportive addition to my future host family’s life.
Thank you so much for taking the time to get to know me. I hope this letter has brought you a little closer to who I am and the values I hold dear. I am very excited about the possibility of joining your family and creating unforgettable memories together.
With many thanks and warm regards,
Chelsea
