Dear Host family
I am a South African lady, 59 years old. I am currently living in a small farming town with both my parents. I am seeking a position as an elderly companion/carer.I am a compassionate and reliable person dedicated to improving the quality of life of seniors through practical assistance,attentive care and meaningful conversation.I am patient, trustworthy and have 3 years experience looking after 2 very different situations. I do not have formal education but have gained valuable skills looking after the two. The first was personal for me, looking after my sister who had cancer.Thats when I decided I will look after the elderly, because they need a lot of attention and are generally alone and lonely. I helped with daily household chores, companionship, medication,meals, light housekeeping. Light exercises or walks to get around the house. We did puzzles, board games, read the Bible, newspaper, watched TV together. Had stimulating conversations. I do not drive but can get around in cabs/taxis, busses, trains or can do deliveries when needed.I am also willing to take first aid classes and do short courses online to learn more about caring. I looked after a gentleman who fell of a ladder for about 4 months he was in his 80's and couldn't sit up after hospital, he had temporary amnesia but I am happy to say when I left he was on his feet and recovered.
The last lady I looked after is turning 94 this year, and reminds me of Daffy who had a utube channel and is as fiesty as Daffy was.Her family was abroad and I was her companion for almost 2 years. She was mostly housebound, even her GP did house calls every 6 months to check her bp, n arthritis but I thoroughly enjoyed her company. I helped with bathing, medication, short walks or taking her around the yard in her wheelchair. I was sad to leave because her family came back home.I am including contact details for references.
