Dear Host Family,
My name is Mendrika, and I am a 22-year-old from Madagascar. I'm writing to you today
because I would love to be your au pair.
While my grandmother and sister live in the eastern part of Madagascar, I live in the capital city
to focus on my studies. I have one sister and one brother, but my brother does not live with us.
Unfortunately, our parents passed away some time ago.
After I completed my baccalaureate, I joined an association called "SESAME" (Soutien aux
études supérieures et accès à un Métier Porteur), which helped me get a scholarship for my
bachelor's degree in Management. I studied at a business school called "ISCAM" (Institut
Supérieure de la communication et du management), and I graduated in 2022. I then worked as
an Administrative and Logistics Assistant for one year. Continuing my education is very
important to me, and I have almost finished my master's degree.
I am a disciplined and dedicated person who enjoys a good challenge. I am passionate about
sports; I go to the gym three times a week and love swimming. When I'm at home, I enjoy
cooking and reading books. Although I can be shy and reserved at first, people often tell me that
I'm a "pleasant surprise" once they get to know me.
I am a serious individual with a passion for learning and new experiences. On weekends, I often
volunteer by cleaning hospitals, teaching at a primary school, and playing with children who
have disabilities. During holidays, I love spending time with my family, especially my
grandmother, whose life experiences are always an inspiration. I believe that exploring new
cultures and meeting diverse people is crucial for personal growth and maturity, which is a
major reason why I want to be an au pair.
Regarding my childcare experience, I volunteered for nine months at a school and a nursery,
which gave me the opportunity to work with children from three months to twelve years old. The
parents would drop their children off around 8 AM and pick them up between 4 PM and 5 PM. I
worked alongside dedicated colleagues and our daily activities included engaging playtime and
educational games. Additionally, I have a driver's license.
I understand that patience and calmness are essential when caring for children, especially
during busy times. This experience has been incredibly rewarding, and it has strengthened my
desire to become an au pair. I know that becoming an au pair isn't easy, but I truly enjoy taking
care of children and gaining experience. For this reason, I have spent the last year doing
training and internships to acquire as many skills as possible in this field.
The USA stands out as an ideal country for learning opportunities. Living with an American
family would offer me the chance to immerse myself in their culture, traditions, cooking, and
lifestyle. After my au pair stay, I plan to return to Madagascar to pursue my Ph.D. My goal is to
become a high school and university teacher so I can share my experiences and knowledge
with others.
