My name is Laura Wandia, a Kenyan living in Kenya with a valid passport. I come from a nuclear family. I have three siblings: a brother and two sisters. I live with my parents and commute to work on a daily basis. I am an empathic caregiver.
Currently, I work in an elderly rescue centre, where I assist in bathing, feeding, and light house chores, assist them in their daily walks, offer mental and physical support, and provide companionship. My clients are between the ages of 60 and 97 years old. I love what I do, and I believe I am very great at it.
Initially, I worked in an all-boys institution where I looked after boys who had been rescued from the streets. There are 150 boys ages 4 to 18 years old. 21 of them are mentally challenged (cerebral palsy), have epilepsy, and need special care.
Having a background in medicine helps me in screening them for any illnesses they may have, dressing wounds and giving them medication, helping them with homework, actively participating during their playtime, taking them for routine medical check-ups, cleaning laundry, and keeping their rooms clean, among many others.
Since most children are abandoned and neglected, I offered emotional support where needed.
I have worked in a newborn unit for 3 months, 40 hours a week, as part of my internship training. My roles included taking care of premature babies, calculating their intravenous and oral feeds, ensuring mothers handled them correctly, and medically managing any signs and symptoms.
I believe being an au pair gives me an opportunity to thrive and do what I love best, which is taking care of children and elderly people.
I would also want to become more independent, learn new languages, and establish lasting, professional connections with families and children by encouraging open communication and delivering positive feedback.
I am an outgoing child and elderly caregiver who is hardworking, understanding, and passionate, with experience caring for children and the elderly.
Based on my previous and present experience, I believe I qualify for this position. Doing what I am exceptionally good at brings happiness to me.
