My name is Veronica, I am 22 years old, and I come from Kenya. I have completed my diploma studies in Social Work and Community Development, a field that has strengthened my understanding of children’s welfare, emotional well-being, communication, and the importance of creating safe and supportive environments for children. I come from a family of six and I am the fifth born. Growing up in a large extended family gave me the opportunity to naturally interact with and care for children of different ages, which helped shape my love for childcare and family life from an early age.

I have around four years of childcare experience gained through caring for my younger siblings, relatives’ children, and neighbours’ children whenever their parents were at work or needed support. Through babysitting and family care, I have learned how to responsibly support children through their daily routines, help with homework, engage them in play, and ensure they feel safe, happy, and comfortable. I enjoy spending quality time with children through activities such as storytelling, colouring, singing songs, educational play, creative activities, and outdoor games that encourage learning and confidence.

I have also volunteered with child-focused programs supported by USAID under the Tumikia Mtoto program, where I worked with OVC (Orphans and Vulnerable Children) through family strengthening programs focused on child welfare, safeguarding, and child protection. This experience deepened my understanding of children’s emotional, social, and developmental needs while teaching me the importance of patience, trust-building, attentive listening, and providing a safe and supportive environment for vulnerable children.

Additionally, I volunteer in children’s homes on some weekends, where I support young children through daily care activities such as folding clothes, laundry, washing dishes, organizing clothing donations, helping with cooking, and spending meaningful time interacting with the children. I genuinely enjoy creating positive moments for children by making them feel cared for, included, and supported.

One thing that makes me trustworthy around children is my calm, caring, and attentive nature. I am naturally patient, responsible, and observant, and I understand the importance of clear communication with both children and parents. My social work background has strengthened my ability to listen, understand children’s emotions, solve problems calmly, and respond with empathy. I also hold a first aid certification, which equips me to respond responsibly and calmly whenever children require care or assistance.

My desire to become an au pair comes from my genuine love for children and my passion for being part of their growth and development. I would love the opportunity to care for children with the same love, patience, and attentiveness that I would give to my younger siblings. I hope to become a caring, dependable, and trustworthy presence in their lives like a supportive older sister who they feel comfortable around, learn from, and create beautiful memories with.

As an au pair, I look forward to supporting children with their daily routines, playtime, learning activities, and emotional well-being while helping create a warm, positive, and loving environment in the home. I am also excited about the cultural exchange experience and would love to share my Kenyan culture and values while learning from my host family and building meaningful connections together.
