Dear family
Hi! I am Alejandra, a 23 year old Colombian who found her vocation in the smile of a child. I live in a small city called Popayán, also called "the white city", here where in the afternoons we eat Pipián empanadas accompanied by a good cup of coffee.
I am part of a community group where I prepare myself to become an au pair by participating in workshops on psycho-pedagogy, neuro-education and pedagogy.
I am a very dynamic and creative girl, all the time I try to learn new things and, likewise, I love to share them. This leads me to meet many people and many tasks. I am active, sociable and adventurous, but at the same time, I am a very quiet and homely person who loves the little things that life gives her.
In my house we live many and constantly come and go, but my family nucleus is made up of: my father, Jhon; my mother, Olga; my older brother, Stiven; my younger brother, Fredy and finally my other younger brother, and our reason for being, Nicolas. Our days are also accompanied by "Paca" a beautiful white cat and her daughter "Paquita". Throughout the years I have been able to experience what is the warmth of a home and the love of care thanks to the time I have lived with them, I can only say that I am very grateful to have the family I have. We usually go for walks to rivers, lakes, waterfalls or places surrounded by nature, play hide and seek, prepare food, paint, sing and laugh. We enjoy walking outdoors, horseback riding, walking our pets and meeting other family members outside of the immediate family. We love going to an aunt's plot because we get to see and play with farm animals, it's like being in a zoo where the animals are free, my aunt's pigs walk around her house as if they were dogs and act like dogs, it's a curious thing to see.
Previously, I said that in my house people come and go and this is because my mother has been dedicated for more than 10 years to a beautiful social work in a program developed by the government dedicated to the care of homeless children; that is why for more than ten years I have also been part of that process. Currently, I have a degree in Basic Education with an emphasis in Spanish and English; I have also completed a diploma in Pedagogy of Self-Knowledge and Self-Learning, I have participated in various discussions, trainings and workshops related to the care of children with multiple abilities, integrated arts seminars, meetings of education, health and teaching identity.
Whenever I can I take time to read, I love science fiction, I have a great imagination, so I love to recreate in my head what I read. I also love to write, mainly thoughts or short writings, but also some stories or short stories. In general, I like to sing, do crafts, go out with friends and visit places that we can find beautiful and interesting.
As for children, I have really taken care of many, all from different regions of my country, with different customs and even different language. I have been a mother of babies, children and teenagers, I say I have been their mother because I treat them as if they were my own children. I always say that I am not a mother, but I have raised many children, and after sharing so much time with a child you create a bond, you weave love. All of the above is due to the work my mother does, in which I am her support network; however, I have also worked as a nanny not only taking care of my cousins, but also children of family friends and even people who have seen from afar my interaction with the children and have approached me to ask if I could take care of theirs. Regarding my career, since I graduated in March of this year, I started giving private lessons and I also teach a class of children between 8 and 9 years old in a school in my city. I usually do games, crafts, workshops and so on, I try to make the moment the children share with me is full of magic.
I have also taken care of children with disabilities, especially visual impairment, it is a subject that touches the most sensitive fibers of my heart because my younger brother is blind and therefore, I have dedicated myself to do everything in my power to make his life a wonderful experience.
My greatest interest to be an Au Pair is to live a new experience, to be able to share what I know and to offer the warmth of my person to the family that welcomes me in their home. In addition, I really like the idea of being able to strengthen my second language, which is English, to be able to live from what I love, which is taking care of children and at the same time to travel and learn about new cultures and traditions.
My native language is Spanish, however, I have been taking courses to strengthen my English, which, although it is still far from perfect and with which I still stumble, I hope to improve during my stay in another country.
