Dear future host family,
I am Valeria, I’m 20 years old and I’m from Medellín, Colombia. Now, let me tell you something about me and my life. I live here with my parents, Natalia and Alter. Unfortunately, I don’t have brothers or sisters, I wish, but I don’t, I’m an only child. Anyway, I have a really good relationship with my parents, we always go out to the cinema or some restaurants, or just hang out in the house. We really get along.
About myself, I am a responsible, emphatic and sensitive girl. I have always been creative, at the school my favorite subjects were philosophy and arts. Later, I decided to study psychology, because I always felt that I wanted understand others, support others, help them with their pain in some way. Now I am on my last semester and I want to be and do many things but definitely being a good psychologist is one of them.
In my free time I like to write and sing, probably write it’s the passion of my life, It’s so important for me and it’s something that has helped me in difficult times. Also, I like do exercise frequently, that keeps me energized and I like to feel healthy too. I enjoy hang out with my friends of course, go to concerts because I loved the music too, just reading in home or spend time in some peaceful place.
As for my experience with children, I've looked after some for a while.
In 2022 I took care of two incredible girls, ages 1 and 7, from February to November, Monday to Friday (1pm to 6pm). Normally, I gave them lunch or prepared snacks for them, played with them or helped the older girl with her homework. Sometimes we would watch television together or go out to the park. They are extremely loving, fun and calm, I had a pleasant and incredible time taking care of them and I still visit them frequently.
In 2023 I was babysitting a 2-year-old, on Fridays (1pm to 6pm) and Saturdays (8am to 5pm). I started taking care of him in January and I still do. I bathe him, dress him and when i have to, I give him breakfast, lunch and a snack. I play with him and also help him take a nap. We go out to the building's park frequently as well. He is a very energetic child, he is always running, talking and doing something. He is fun to be with and taking care of him has been quite a challenge but it has also been a nice experience for me.
I love the children that I have cared for deeply, I have had to be very patient and have a lot of energy all the time, I was always willing to do it. I am very good at listening and talking to children. I did a diploma in early childhood care precisely because I wanted to have enough tools to be responsible, respectful but above all to understand children and make them feel comfortable and safety by my side.
The reason why I decided to be an Au pair and get involved in this adventure is because I have never wanted my life to be too monotonous and I felt that I was at a point where I had to do something new. Also, I really enjoy spend time with children. As I was saying before, I am an only child who always wanted have brothers or sisters, so maybe that is the reason. I’ve always wanted to see new places too and improve my English since I have learned it on my own for many years. All this is a challenge for me. I think it is incredible to be able to live this experience while contributing to the lives of other people, who are going to be my host family and who I am excited to meet.
I'm terribly scared but excited all the same. I would be very happy to become part of your family and create amazing memories together. I hope you read my letter and wish like me that you become part of my life and my dreams.
