Dear Host Family

Hello, my name is Jakeline but people use to call me Jacky, I was born on December 21th, 1999. I live in Medellin/Colombia, I come from a large and traditional family consisting of my mother and father who are still together after 23 years, two sisters, two brothers and my cute cat named Obdulin.

Months ago I moved on my own because I want to be more confident and independent with myself. Living away from home has taught me to appreciate many things, to be much more responsible than I was before going and to mature as person. I visit my family once or twice a week and we usually do activities that help us remember beautiful moments and not lose the union that characterizes us as a family.

I met my friend Alexa 3 years ago, she taught me many things about the American way of life that further increased my desire to learn more about her country and culture. My family and friends say that I am a very motherly, responsible and lovely person, and I also love children, so this year I decided to fulfill my dream of being an au pair in the United States; they support my decision and are very happy for me. I am delighted to have the opportunity to improve my English, learn about your lifestyle, customs and country, which I greatly admire. And what better way than doing what I love! I love spending time with children and learning everything they can teach me every day. They learn a lot from us, but we learn more from them than we think. For me it is wonderful to see them grow with us and learn, little by little, to be more independent.

I am the older sister of three of my siblings so when my parents were working I was taking care of my siblings, I cooked for them, help them with their homework, take them to the park and teach them recipes so we could cook together; I also worked for a few months in a daycare center, I was in a project where we helped children with eating problems to have a healthier life, and I was taking care of Karen for a year, she is a 4 year old girl who was super charming and active.

When I got out of high school I decided to go study Computer Music because for me music is my passion, it makes me feel connected with myself and my environment, I can play the piano (just a little), I like to learn about different music genres so I don't have a defined favorite genre yet... In my free time, I sing, read some books, listen to music, write poems, dance and I love to cook, experimenting with food is one of my favorite hobbies.

I am a dreamer, easy going, kind, friendly and above all respectful; I am really excited to meet you, learn from you, be part of you family and give you a little bit of who I am and my Colombian roots.
