Introduction

Dear future host family,
My name is Vini (short for Vinicius), I am 19 years old and from Brazil. I was raised for many years by my grandmother, who played a central role in my upbringing and taught me responsibility, patience, and the importance of caring for others. Today, I live with my mother and father (both 49 years old) and my older brother, who is 21 and currently in medical school. Growing up in a close family where different generations shared daily life meant that I was often involved in caring for others, helping with daily tasks, and adapting to different needs. This experience gradually built my sense of responsibility and made me comfortable supporting children and teenagers in their routines.

My strongest experience with childcare comes from both family life and hands-on responsibility. One important example is my experience caring for the children of Ana Márcia, a family close to mine. Over time, I became responsible for supporting them in their daily routines, homework, playtime, and supervision. I prepared simple meals, helped with school tasks, organized activities to keep them engaged, and made sure they felt safe, heard, and cared for. Taking on this responsibility over extended periods strengthened my confidence in caring for children independently and responding calmly to different situations.

Alongside this, I have several years of experience working with children and teenagers in educational and after?school settings in Brazil. In these environments, staying calm, patient, and attentive was essential, especially when children felt frustrated, distracted, or overwhelmed. My role was very practical and child?centered: organizing games, assisting with homework, guiding group activities, and offering emotional support when needed. Over time, I learned how to slow down, listen carefully, and respond with empathy, which helped me balance structure and flexibility, adapt to different personalities, and communicate clearly with both children and adults.

I have also lived abroad in community?based programs in countries such as the United States, Switzerland, and South Africa. Living in shared homes and close communities helped me become adaptable, respectful of family/house rules, and comfortable integrating into new routines and cultures. I understand the importance of trust, communication, and reliability when you welcome someone into your home.

I am calm, patient, and attentive in my relationships with others, and especially so with children. In addition to daily routines like mornings, homework time, and bedtime, I enjoy using everyday moments as opportunities for learning and connection. In families where English is not the first language, I can naturally support children’s English development through playtime, storybooks, conversations, and creative activities. In English?speaking households, I see my role as being a supportive, English?speaking “big sibling” who helps children strengthen their confidence in expressing themselves, communicating clearly, and engaging thoughtfully with the world around them. In both cases, I focus on creating a relaxed, encouraging environment where children feel safe, heard, and comfortable being themselves.

I am organized, responsible, and committed to my role. I am happy to help with light household tasks related to the children, simple cooking, and keeping shared spaces tidy. I value clear communication with parents and always aim to respect the family’s rules and expectations.

Becoming an au pair is a natural step for me because it combines childcare, cultural exchange, and family life. I would love to support your children’s daily lives with care and responsibility while learning from your culture and becoming a trusted part of your family.

Thank you very much for your time and consideration. I would be happy to share more about myself and to learn more about your family and your expectations for an au pair.

Warm wishes,
Vini
