Hello dear host family,

My name is Nancy, and I am a Kenyan university student studying for a Bachelor of Arts degree in Kiswahili and Geography. I am excited about the possibility of becoming an au pair and joining a welcoming family abroad. I would describe myself as calm, responsible, caring, patient, open-minded and adaptable. I enjoy learning about different cultures and would love to experience everyday family life in another country while also sharing my Kenyan culture with you.

As the eldest child in my family, I have developed a strong sense of responsibility and patience from a young age. I have experience caring for younger children within my family and helping with their everyday needs and activities. Although I do not have formal professional childcare qualifications, I am comfortable supervising children, keeping them company, helping with age-appropriate activities and homework, and making sure they feel safe and supported. I am honest about my level of experience and willing to learn with guidance from my host family.

I particularly enjoy spending time with school-age children. I would be happy to help with school preparation, homework, reading, games, creative activities, outdoor activities and daily routines. I enjoy drawing and art, so I would love to share creative activities with children. I also enjoy hiking, nature walks and exploring new places, and I would be happy to encourage children to enjoy safe, age-appropriate outdoor activities.

Education is important to me, and I enjoy learning. With my university background in Kiswahili and Geography, I would be happy to help children with homework or educational activities within my abilities. I believe children can learn through games, conversations, creativity, exploring nature and everyday experiences as well as through schoolwork.

I am comfortable around animals and have grown up around dogs, cats, rabbits, chickens and geese. I would therefore be happy to help with reasonable pet-related responsibilities if they are part of the agreed au pair duties. I am also willing to help with light household tasks, such as keeping children's areas tidy, preparing simple meals for the children, shopping for household necessities and helping with everyday family routines.

I am interested in becoming an au pair because I want to become more independent, experience life in a different culture, improve my language skills and build meaningful connections with people from another country. I speak English and Kiswahili fluently and would be interested in learning the language of my host country through lessons and everyday family life.

I am flexible about where I live and could be happy in a large city, smaller town or quieter area. I particularly appreciate places with good public transportation and opportunities to explore. During my free time, I enjoy drawing, spending time outdoors, exploring new places and learning new things, while also valuing some quiet personal time.

As an au pair, I understand that I would become part of your household rather than simply taking a job. I would make an effort to understand and respect your family's routines, parenting style, house rules, traditions and expectations. I also value clear communication and would be happy to discuss schedules, responsibilities, days off and other expectations openly.

I am looking for a host family relationship based on mutual respect, trust, honesty and good communication. I would love to become someone your children feel comfortable around and someone you can rely on for the childcare responsibilities we agree upon. I would also enjoy sharing my Kenyan culture with your family through food, Kiswahili words and expressions, stories, traditions and conversations about life in Kenya.
