Hello, my name is Doris, I am 23 years old and I come from Kenya. I am a caring, strategic, and innovative young woman who enjoys learning, meeting new people, and creating positive experiences for those around me. I am currently a diploma holder, and I believe that becoming an au pair would be a wonderful opportunity for me to combine my love for children with my desire to experience a new culture, grow personally, and become more independent.

I have always enjoyed being around children because of their energy, curiosity, honesty, and unique way of looking at the world. For me, caring for children is not simply about supervising them; it is about making them feel safe, loved, respected, and encouraged to discover their abilities. I have one year of childcare experience with children between the ages of 4 and 11. During this experience, I learned how important patience, responsibility, communication, and consistency are when taking care of children of different ages and personalities.

My childcare experience has given me the opportunity to understand that every child is different and needs individual attention. Some children are naturally outgoing and active, while others may be quieter and need more encouragement to express themselves. I enjoy taking time to understand each child's personality, interests, and needs so that I can support them in a way that makes them comfortable. I am responsible when it comes to routines and safety, but I also believe children should have enough freedom to play, explore, ask questions, and be creative.

As an au pair, I would be happy to help with everyday activities such as preparing simple meals, helping children get ready in the morning, keeping their play areas organized, assisting with homework, playing games, reading stories, accompanying them during outdoor activities, and helping with their daily routines. I understand that being an au pair also means becoming a reliable member of the host family, and I am willing to contribute positively to the household while respecting the family's rules, routines, and parenting style.

One of my strengths is that I am caring. I genuinely care about the wellbeing of others and try to make people around me feel comfortable and supported. I am also strategic, which helps me stay organized, think ahead, and handle situations calmly. When working with children, I understand that plans can sometimes change unexpectedly, so I try to remain flexible and find practical solutions. My innovative personality also encourages me to think of new and enjoyable ways to keep children engaged. I would love to introduce creative games, activities, stories, and simple learning experiences that match their interests and ages.

I speak English, Dutch, and German, which I consider a valuable part of my ability to communicate and connect with people from different backgrounds. I am always interested in improving my language skills and learning more about the way people communicate and live in different countries. I would be excited to practice languages with my host family and, at the same time, share aspects of Kenyan culture, traditions, food, stories, and everyday life with them.

Outside of childcare, one of my hobbies is swimming. I enjoy swimming because it helps me relax, stay active, and have fun. I also appreciate activities that allow me to spend time outdoors and enjoy new surroundings. I believe an active and positive lifestyle is important, and I would be happy to participate in activities with the children, whether that means playing outside, going for walks, visiting interesting places, or simply enjoying quality family time.

My main reason for wanting to become an au pair is my love for working with children. I find it rewarding to see children learn something new, become more confident, and express themselves freely. I would like to gain more experience in childcare while also developing my communication, independence, adaptability, and life skills. I see the au pair experience as much more than an opportunity to travel. For me, it is an opportunity to build meaningful relationships, learn from another family, and become a more mature and confident person.

Cultural exchange is another important reason why I am interested in becoming an au pair. Coming from Kenya, I would love to learn about my host family's culture, traditions, celebrations, food, daily routines, and way of life. At the same time, I would be happy to share my own culture with them. I believe living with a host family provides a unique opportunity to understand another culture from a personal perspective rather than simply learning about it from books or the internet. I am open-minded and respectful of differences, and I believe that learning from one another can create a beautiful and meaningful experience.

I also look forward to personal growth. Living in another country and becoming part of a new host family would challenge me to step out of my comfort zone.
