Dear Family,

my name is Matthias, I’m 19 years old and I come from South Tyrol in northern Italy. I recently finished high school and decided to take a year before university to live abroad, experience a different culture and become more independent.

I have always enjoyed being around children. I like their energy, curiosity and imagination, and I especially enjoy doing things together instead of simply keeping them busy. I have over 500 hours of childcare experience with children aged 3–13, including childcare centres, summer camps and almost a year regularly looking after a 4-year-old boy. I have organised games, crafts, sports and outdoor activities, helped with meals and routines, supervised children at swimming pools and communicated with parents.

One of the most important experiences in my life was spending 10 months in Cádiz, Spain, as an exchange student. I lived with a Spanish host family, went to a Spanish school and met people from many different countries. It taught me how much I enjoy living with another family, adapting to a different way of life and being part of a new culture. This is a big reason why I want to become an au pair.

Languages are also a big part of who I am. German and Italian are my native languages. I speak English at C1 level and have taken the IELTS test, and I speak Spanish after studying it throughout high school and living in Spain.

Outside of childcare, I’m a very active person. Volleyball is my biggest passion, and I also love hiking, skiing, travelling and spending time outdoors. I have a driving licence and would be happy to help with school runs and activities where needed.

I’m currently open to different destinations, especially Spain, Australia and Canada, but I’m also open to other places if I find the right family. The length of my stay is flexible depending on the destination and the family. For Australia or Canada, I would ideally like to stay around 6 months or longer if everything works well, while for Spain I would also be happy with a shorter stay of around 3 months.

What I’m looking for is more than simply a place to stay. I would really like to become part of my host family, help with everyday life, build a good relationship with the children and experience what it is like to live in another country as part of a family. In return, I hope to bring positive energy, responsibility, patience and my own culture and languages into your home.
