Hi! My name is Ilona, I’m a 19-year-old French student currently studying at SKEMA Business School in Lille, France.

I decided to take a gap year because I have always wanted to discover the world, meet new people and experience everyday life in another country. I feel like my twenties are the perfect time to take this opportunity, become more independent and create memories that I will keep for the rest of my life. I would also love to use this experience to improve my English and become more confident speaking it every day.

I have always been comfortable around children. I have two younger brothers, so I have been used to looking after children from a young age. I have picked them up from school, helped them with their homework, prepared meals for them and spent time with them during weekends and holidays.

I also have my BAFA, a French qualification that allows me to work with children. I worked in summer and holiday activity centres, where I looked after children from 0 to 4 years old. This experience taught me how to be responsible, patient and attentive while also making sure children have fun and feel comfortable.

I have also done babysitting for families and family friends during weekends and holidays.

I am comfortable taking care of young children and babies, preparing simple meals and helping with homework. When I was in high school, I also volunteered as a tutor for an 11-year-old girl twice a week. We worked together on her homework, tests and study methods, and I was really happy to see her grades improve.

I would describe myself as smiley, patient, dynamic, creative and organised. I’m quite easy-going and calm, and I really enjoy spending time with children.

For me, being an au pair is not only about taking care of children. I would love to become part of the family and discover their everyday life.

I especially like the idea that children can show me their world. Their favourite park, their school routine, their favourite places, the things they usually do after school... I think discovering a new city through children and their habits would be such a special experience.

At the same time, I would love to share a little bit of my own culture and French traditions with them.

During my free time, I love travelling and discovering new places. I enjoy visiting cities, walking around, going shopping, watching movies and doing creative activities and crafts.

I also love spending time with animals. I have a dachshund at home, so animals have always been a part of my life.

I’m open to discovering different countries and cultures, and I’m not looking for one specific destination. My main goal is to have a meaningful experience, meet new people, improve my English and become part of a family while discovering their way of life.

I would love to find a family with whom I can build a real relationship based on trust, communication and kindness.

I’m really excited about the idea of sharing everyday life with a family, helping with the children and, at the same time, learning from them and discovering a new place through their eyes.
