Introduction
“What do you want to become when you grow up?”
From a young age, I was asked this question many times, and my answer was always, “A teacher for children.”
Hello! My name is Trisha Faith M. Delima, and I am from the Philippines. Coming from a big family, there were always children around me. At a young age, it was not unusual for me to be asked to look after my younger cousins and siblings. I would play with them, take care of them, and spend hours keeping them company. Looking back, I think this is where my love for children and my childhood dream of becoming a teacher began.
You may wonder, “But why did you become an engineer if you wanted to teach children?”
My decision to pursue Civil Engineering was a tribute to my father, who never had the opportunity to pursue the dreams he had for himself. He passed away just before I started my senior year of high school, and at that time, I decided that I wanted to help make his dreams come true. I worked hard, became a Civil Engineer, and I believe I have made him proud. Now, I feel that it is time for me to explore the things I have always loved and do something meaningful for myself.
I am a responsible, hardworking, patient, and caring person. I enjoy learning new things, meeting people from different backgrounds, and experiencing new cultures. I believe that these qualities will help me become a good Au Pair and Nanny.
I would love to become an Au Pair because I genuinely enjoy being around children and would love the opportunity to become part of a family in another country. Since I was young, I have helped take care of my younger cousins, siblings, nieces, and nephews. Although this is not formal professional childcare experience, it has taught me a lot about patience, responsibility, attentiveness, and understanding. More importantly, I have learned that children need more than just supervision. They need someone who will listen to them, encourage them, make them feel safe, and genuinely care about them.
As an Au Pair, I would be happy to help with your children's daily routines. I can assist with preparing simple meals, keeping their belongings organized, helping with homework, playing with them, accompanying them to activities, and making sure they are safe and comfortable. I am also willing to help with light household tasks related to the children and to follow your family's routines and expectations.
I believe you should consider hosting me because I am someone who takes responsibilities seriously and is always willing to learn. I do not have formal childcare training yet, but I am more than willing to take First Aid, CPR, childcare, or any other training that may be required. I understand that taking care of children is a great responsibility, and I want to make sure that I am properly prepared to provide them with the care and support they deserve.
My professional experience as a Civil Engineer has also helped me develop strong organizational, communication, time-management, and problem-solving skills. I am used to following procedures, handling responsibilities carefully, working with different people, and staying calm when dealing with challenges. I believe these skills will help me become a dependable and trustworthy member of your household.
Most importantly, I would like to build a genuine and respectful relationship with your family. I understand that being an Au Pair is more than simply looking after children. It means becoming part of a household, respecting your family's values, learning your routines, and creating a positive and comfortable environment for everyone.
I am also excited about the opportunity to learn about your culture while sharing my own Filipino culture with you. I hope to improve my English, experience life in a different country, and most importantly, create meaningful memories with your family and the children I will have the privilege of caring for.
I may not have a professional childcare background, but I believe I have something equally important: a genuine love for children, a willingness to learn, and a heart that truly wants to care for them.
Thank you very much for taking the time to read my letter. I would be happy to get to know your family, learn about your expectations, and hopefully have the opportunity to become a caring and responsible part of your family.
Warm regards,
Trisha Faith M. Delima
